Does anyone have a daily Broadlands to Ballston commute?

You might want to look into taking the LC Commuter bus to West Falls Church/Rosslyn/Pentagon/DC and switching for the subway at one either WFC or Rosslyn.

Here's a link to the PDF of the bus schedule: http://www.loudoun.gov/controls/speerio/resources/RenderContent.aspx?data=1752c0bb4038452fa5a5f94ecd bc23c5&tabid=333

It's fast, reliable, and relatively inexpensive!

Liz,

Thanks for the suggestion and I have actually driven to the Herndon Monroe Park n' Ride and take the fairfax Connector bus to WFC for only a $1. This is actually less costly then the Loudoun Commuter buses and more timely. The problem is that they are rebuilding/repairing the parking garage at Herndon and there are a lot of parking spots that are now closed so you have to arrive 30 minutes earlier than normal to get a parking spot. I just wish there was more thought put into the commuting issues facing our area.

Are you looking for a carpool? Or do you have a specific question about the commute like back roads, best route, etc? I used to do that route from 2001-2007. HOV isn't that bad from the toll road to Ballston.

We commute to Ballston daily. I agree on the Herndon-Monroe option...once the construction is completed I belive Fairfax Connector/Orange line is the best option based on the cost and frequency of buses.

If you can car-pool make sure you drive before 9:00 AM on VA-267/I-66 and try to get onto I-66 E before 8:50 AM...anytime after 9:15 AM, it is a huge mess!

The HOV on the toll road has gotten real bad between all the hybrids, motorcycles, and carpoolers plus the normal people who risk getting caught. I actually saw an elderly lady the other day with a "dummy" as a passenger all dressed up. It was hilarious and she had a purple heart license plate. The enforcement on the toll road has slacked off a lot this year.

Even when you take a fairfax connector bus from the park n ride it can take the bus 15 to 20 minutes to just make it to the entrance to the access road by Hunter Mill. If they allow the buses to use the access road why not build an entrance ramp right from the park n ride to the access road. This would facilitate the traffic flow and on the return trip going Westbound it would keep the buses off Fairfax County Pkwy.

Even when we carpool we end up going into the Airport to conduct business and then we are able to drive on the access road since we conducted business on airport grounds. Since there are two of us in the car the 66 part of the commute is a breeze.

Conduct business at the airport? Is that like buying a cup of coffee? Don't forget to ask for a receipt - you never know when you're going to need it!

That's exactly what we do sometimes (buy candy, coffee or fill 1/2 a gallon gas...depending on the mood) at the gas station inside the airport!!! :) Btw...I always ask for a receipt even if it is for a dollar worth of gas.

Even with the little airport detour and the time spent buying something, you are definitely going to save at least 10 to 15 mts...if the traffic volume is very high.
