We have a VM house with a front porch. The paint is peeling from the ceiling and a painter told me this was because it was done incorrectly in the first place. The builder used wallboard which should never be used outside. He claims that it will never hold paint well and won't guarantee his work if he paints it. He suggested putting up MTO (?) or some other covering to solve this problem. The house is 5 yrs old so I doubt VM will help. Has anyone had this problem or know about it and have any advice?
Thanks!

you might be able to find some sort of vinyl/plastic based product so you'll never have to worry about painting it again. I've had to replace some trim on my house and swear by composite/plastics... might cost a bit more now, but you won't have to maintain it. It's pretty sad that for how much we pay for these houses, they aren't the quality they should be...

He has a point about covering the wallboard with MDO (medium density overlay). It has a paper layer that will allow paint to take and stick.
I don't know if you can find a composite made wide enough that would cover the ceiling.
