Mailbox Posts

We moved in about 5 months ago into a detached SF home. Our mailbox post is deteriorating, and I don't think a coat of paint is going to be enough. I think it's going to need to be replaced sometime in the near future. How is this handled in the neighborhood? I see they all seem to be of the same design, which doesn't appear to be what I see at Home Depot. Thanks.

Any change in style or color to the mailbox/mailbox post must be submitted to the Modification committee for approval. There are some genaral guidelines listed on page 38 of the Residential Design Guidelines manual.

FWIW ... if you are located in the northern area of Broadlands, you can buy one of the standard prefabricated 4x4 mailbox posts at Home Depot or Lowes. Get a six foot length of 1 by 4 and build the 'paper' box under the crosspiece. The little knob at the top is just angle cuts with a circular saw. That's all they did for the original posts they put up.

Now in Southern Walk, I'm not sure where Van Metre got those posts. That may be something we need to look into for the future.

The mailboxes in Southern Walk (at least the Longleaf section... Milford Drive, etc.) are from Mailbox Plus, 703-815-4777. We know because ours was hit by a truck or snowplow last winter and we had to get it fixed.

Our mailbox's support bracket (under the box itself) snapped and we called Mailboxes Plus. They want $60 total for the part + installation (they charge the same price for the part only).

We're in the Courtyards section. Does anyone know where else I can buy just the part? $60 seems like a lot for just curvy piece of metal that just needs a couple screws.

That's what we get for these fancy mailboxes from one supplier. Ours was hit last year by a cement truck and just totally destroyed the mailbox. I complained to VM and they replaced it for us. Unfortunatly it took about 2 weeks for them to get out and replace it because apparently the company was out of mailboxes and that is the only supplier VM knows about.

We have a broken mailbox in the Northern section and could not find the replacement at Lowes or HD, Neil, are we supposed to make those matching cuts with the circular saw ourselves? Replacements must be "made" and not purchased.....fun!

Unfortunately, yes .. but they are really easy cuts to do.
