Ethan Allen Sterling

Has anyone purchased anything from Ethan Allen in Sterling recently? We purchased a bedroom set last year and were very pleased with the quality and service. This year, we furnished the rest of our home and had the complete opposite experience.
I’d be interested in hearing from anyone else who has used this particular store.

We did, furnished most of our home, with the exception of family room. Although when they deliver, inspect everything. They guys that brought our China cabinet, scratch the heck out of it, had to return it. They also have an excellent service tech who has come out and fixed a few items, (light scratches and a door that wouldn't shut right). Great craftsman.

I find Ethan Allen to be great furniture, but definately overpriced for the quality you get. It's good to know a few manufacturers are still making furniture in the US... I guess they have to pay for all of the marketing and retail stores...

A long weekend trip to High Point, NC is a great idea if you aren't happy with the selection and prices around here...

I agree. My wife and I took a 36-hour trip to NC a couple of years ago to shop for bedroom furniture. The trip, including air, rental car, hotel and meals cost about $600, and we saved a couple of thousand on our bedroom set.

A couple of tips that I have learned based on experience from living abroad where everything is negotiated...never be hesitant to negotiate when shopping for furniture regardless of what the advertised price is. You can negotiate on price as well as delivery. For example, when we first arrived here and were shopping around for additional furniture, we managed to obtain substantial discounts on all furniture and accessories purchased. At one store I commented that since we were paying cash and buying two bedroom sets at the same time that I wanted a better discount. The price was dropped an additional $800. Same thing when we went and purchased lamps...we were paying cash and buying several items. After being polite and requesting that the sales clerk check with the manager, we were able to get the price we requested rather than the advertised price. Most retails stores have a margin where they can negotiate.

Our favorite furniture store where we like the quality and the service has been IMI.

I agree - Ethan Allan is WAY overpriced...you can save a lot of $$$ by shopping around. And yes - going to High Point, NC is well worth the trip.
