View Full Version : How to get rid of an old computer??

In my continuing effort to rid my basement of clutter, I find I have two computers to get rid of.

Both are fully functional Dell cans - full size desktop cans. One is a screamin' 800mhz the other runs at 1gig. I know you're all trembling now!

Point is - no one seems to want these slugs - but I can't bring myself to hurl them off a building.

Anyone have any ideas who Might want them? I'd be nice if I could get a whopping tax deduction (like $50 eh?) too. I was thinking maybe the Ashburn Fire department. If they can't use them, they could practice putting out electrical fires.

Really - short of getting your cousin Vinny to "make it go away" - I'm open to suggestions.

Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.
They will put them in the thrift store
You get the deduction.

Really? Last time I tried they wouldn't take anything that below a certain speed processor.

(Course, I was trying to offload a 386...)

Have you tried Christian Fellowship Church?

If you have a Yahoos Groups account, search for dullesfreecycle. It's a forum for free stuff in the dulles area. I'm sure someone will take it. Or create an account and post. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dullesfreecycle/

800mHz and 1Ghz are still good working computers. Before you give these computers away, yank the hardrives out and destory them. Or somehow "clean" them with a utility. You'll be surprise what kind of imformation can be obtained from a donated computer.

Hi Dawne,

I e-mailed you with an interest in perhaps buying one of your computers, please let me know if you'll consider that as an option?

Thank you

We take all our donations to CFChurch - so they'll end up there if I can't find someone to adopt them first.

Removing applications as I go (transfer to my new computer). Then a full clean up and defrag. But was thinking of just reformatting the drive from scratch with win XP pro (SP1).

Don't have that much data on it anyway....

Franco, will reply to your email...
