Can anyone recommend a local lawyer for a will ?

We used M. H. Lawrence & Associates, P.C. (703.818.0566), got their name through USAA. They're located in Fair Lakes. They did our will and some estate planning.

We used them as well for our will and estate planning, and it was a pleasure working with them.

We used Welsh & Lanham in Leesburg at 703-777-5590. We just wanted the basics and it was a very quick-and-easy process.

If ya'll don't mind, would you be willing to post the fee they charged and for what you got? Also what happens if the law firm closes door? Is the will independent of the company? Thanks.

TBH, I forget what we paid for the services, it was done about 4 years ago. The law firm closing their doors has nothing to do with the validity of the will. They prepare the will, you sign it, take it home, and hopefully store it in a safe place. We bought a little fire safe to store docs like this.

Bob Ohneiser advertises his law practice in the Broadlands newsletter classifieds. He's in Ashburn, phone number is 703-729-6446.

I used Welsh & Lanham under the Hyatt Legal Plan so I don't know the cost. Sorry!
As for what happens if the lawyer goes out of business, it doesn't matter. The will is yours when you're finished. You just need to keep it safe and make sure the executor (whoever you designate to carry it out) knows where that is. Here's a good overview on findlaw:
