Found - Leather Jacket

Found on Sat., 2/19 in the middle of Springwell Drive: Wilsons The Leather Express Black leather zipper jacket (inside is maroon) w/belt - size: XL. Hard to tell if it's a ladies or men's. My husband and I were coming home from being out and saw this black thing in the middle of the street (strange how it got there). If you hear of anyone who lost a leather jacket recently - let me know.

YES!!! I can't believe someone found it! I live on Moss Landing and must have left it on the roof of my car after strapping the baby in... do you still have the coat? I actually borrowed it from a friend and would love to return it...

That's great! I'm so glad to have found the owner of the coat! Yes - I still have it. It's been hanging in our closet. Let me know when you want to come by to pick it up and we can make the arrangements.

I note that each of you can receive e-mails through these forums. Might I suggest you coordinate this via e-mail? I'm not sure we all need to know where the jacket is currently hanging and when each of you is available to meet.

I've been mulling over your message and I do have to comment. Quite frankly, if you don't want to know whose saying what, then ignore the post! Or if you had wanted to advise these folks about the direct email capability it could have been done much more diplomatically. I am saying this because I have been teaching my 83 year old step-mother how to use email, forums and the internet. It's becoming a new outlet for her as she is less mobile. As she has been visiting, she saw this posting and told me if someone sends such a message in response to her she would simply stop posting. It really did upset her and even though this post was in no way directed to her, it affected her outlook of participating online and fears of not knowing the etiquette.

The folks who posted about the jacket have every right to continue their dialogue in whichever venue they choose -- the forums have been set up that way.

Sometimes we all need to sit back and remember when we were new to technology and instead of risking sending someone away feeling that they have committed the worst online faux pas, we should encourage them in a positive manner and kindly suggest the various options they may not be aware of.

Now you can just call me the Old Mother Hen! :)

Sorry Carol, as someone who is not a life-long diplomat, or a spouse of one, I don't know how I could have said this more diplomatically. I pointed out that each of the users (one of whom is a "senior member") can receive e-mails through the forums, and suggested ("Might I suggest") that e-mail might better be a forum to coordinate this. I meant no harm -- unlike your post, the point of my post was not to lecture, but to educate.

And I'm sorry, but if someone stopped using these forums because of a post as benign as mine was, maybe they shouldn't be posting on them. I try to be very helpful on these forums (see, e.g., my posts related to helping you determine where your air filters are, how to adjust your bath temperature, etc.). I submit, however, that there are a lot of people on these forums who are far less "diplomatic" than me, and a thin-skinned poster scared off by my post would certainly cower at their posts, too.

Now, I've got to get going. I'm pretty sure I just saw a child walking down the street with a lollipop that was ripe for the taking! :D

Because it's common sense...conduct personal buisness on personal channels. This is a public forum, read by many, and most people click on the topic regardless of interest just to see what's going on. If one happens to see something they deem unnecessary, they're free to comment on it. In this case, I agree with PF...swap email addresses and keep it private.

With the mentality that personal messages should be emailed directly, then why post replies at all? Just email the person who starts the thread!

No, topics that are open for group discussion require group involvement. This is a transaction between two individuals that would have been best handled via private communication. I don't see how anyone would have a problem with that logic. If you do, maybe we can go back to the old Party Line phone system of the 30's and 40's where everyones personal buisness was free to anyone that picked the phone up.

I appreciate and understand what you were meaning to do with your post however if I may suggest for future postings, the message could have been conveyed more gently by something like..."in case you were not already aware, you do have a private email option where you can communicate directly..." and leave it at that. The ongoing line about everyone not needing to know anymore about the jacket was to my view an unnecessary comment. Hence this is where I took offense and perceived your comment more as lecturing than educating.

Overall your posts are very helpful as well as sometimes provacative! :D And I do appreciate where you have directly responded to my various posts with questions, etc.

Additionally, I think none of us should automatically "assume" if the person is a senior poster or diamond poster that they are technically competent. I certainly do not fall into that category and will be the first to admit it too even though I have posted a lot!

Okay...soapbox mode off...you can go back to enjoying the lollipop now! :D

You didn't scare me away either - All I was doing was a good deed - I found a leather jacket in the middle of the street - Took a long shot by posting in here about it and was hoping to find the owner, which I did. Can't say I'll do that again. People certainly can make mountains out of mole hills in these forums. And - for the record - I've worked with computers for a very long time and am very technical.....just wasn't thinking this particular day, (had lots going on) just wanted to try to find the owner of this jacket. Excuse me!

You are quite correct...but let me just say "insha'allah" (God willing) for I'm moving to Saudi and the majority of internet communications remain censored by the government so I don't know if I'll be able to get access to our lively forums! Guess I'll just have to wait and see! :)
