I don't find the Potomac Swim School to be EXCESSIVELY expensive. I was expecting to pay about $200 per session and that was fairly accurate. A session is about 2-3 months depending on the time of year & it's one class a week. At least that's what I did for our almost 3 year old. It may be worth a trial run so to speak.

You can also sign up for swimming lessons when the pools open in May.

If u are not willing to wait till the season begins, and if you are willing to drive a bit, Herndon Community center is pretty decent. We used to take our daughter there one day a week, when we used to live in Herndon about 3 yrs ago. I think it cost about $80 or so for an 8 week session with some additional registration fees. Of course, this info is about 3 years old :-)

Here is an old thread about this topic from last year. I've tried ASVP and Reston YMCA and much preferred the Y.
