Has anyone had any good or bad experience with their Homeowner's insurance company? I'm looking into transfering my policies (homeowner's, auto) to a single carrier so I can get an umbrella policy as well. I currently have Allstate for my home and haven't had to file a claim, so I haven't really had any experience - good or bad - with them yet. They seem to be cheaper than others I've priced, but I'm wondering if there's a reason.

word of caution here - we specifically keep our home owners, life and auto insurance with separate companies because if you file a claim for auto it will flag your homeowners and vice versa thus making it appear you are a higher risk category than you may be.
we switched to AIG for auto from geico after 15 years with them and have been happy, we use state farm for homeowners and have separate life through other carriers (financial companies usually).
while the convenience of having all underwritten by the same company is gone, the potential for profiling and flagging claims is gone as well.

Sunnydog, you're dreaming if you think these disparate companies don't share claim data.
We've stuck with Allstate for about 3 years now, and have had to file two claims (two different houses). The process was completely painless and our rates have remained low (I realize that will most likely change). USAA seems to offer very low rates as well.

I'm currently using Erie for both homeowner's and auto insurance. I've been very pleased with them, but the caveat that I'll add is that I haven't filed a claim on either policy (and I hope that it remains that way). I've found their pricing to be very reasonable, and the agent I've dealt with is very responsive and helpful.

I also have Erie for homeowners and auto. I've used them for years and have never had a complaint. It's hard to beat their prices.
I too have Erie. So far so good. Doing alot of business with them.

Another Erie customer here. Both home and auto. Used them all my life (back when I lived in PA, then once I relocated here). They're great - decent rates and very responsive.
