Our moving date to Southern Walk is right around the corner and it finally looks like we are comfortable enough that Van Metre will come close to this closing date to schedule our move. Anyone have a good, careful and reasonably priced mover they can recomend? Seems like everyone we have asked so far hated thiers (something got broke/lot/scratched, you name it!)
We were happy with JK Moving and Storage. Their rates were comparable with other major and local moving companies. Their facilities are right here in Sterling. You can pick up free used boxes from their warehouse off rt. 606.

I used Smoother Movers (which may be the same company as JK moving and storage). I moved 5 years ago from Sterling to Broadlands. They gave me firm price range (minimum I would pay and a maximum if the job took longer than their estimate). Their minimum was based on 5 hrs labor and the maximum was base on 7 hrs. The job actually took 10 hrs, so I only had to pay the maximum estimate for 7 hrs. They didn't complain or try to argue up the price. Nothing lost, nothing damaged, no cursing.
I've recommended them to friends and they also had good experiences.

Id recommend JK moving as well. Didnt lose or break a thing, very professional (which is hard to believe for a moving company) . They documented and tagged everything (with removable stickers). Took care of the furniture and didnt rush the move, but yet they weren't slow either. Id recommend them and use them again if I had to.
Good luck w/the move.

We used 2 Guys and a Truck. The "2 Guys" we had worked their butts off and did a great job. Took no longer than they said it would and it was $99/per hour. No cursing or scratches either. We didn't have them pack and unpack, just the move.

I just saw your post and hope I'm not too late - - - - but I found a fantastic mover. Hilldrup Moving & Storage. They were by far the least expensive. The crew was outstanding (very careful with everything). They give you recycled boxes (free of charge) if you would like them. They provided wardrobe boxes for all hanging clothes. They moved a three bedroom TH from Reston to Broadlands (4 man crew) for ~$1200. I have sent several friends to Hilldrup and they have all been very happy.

I have had the other experience with J&K. Trucks showed up late, no stickers, damaged items, unloaded whole truck in a rush in the dark, due to late arrival, etc...

We are moving from Herndon to Broadlands at the end of June and hired Safeway Van lines @ $95 an hour. They sent a crew by to drop off a variety of boxes, packing paper and tape($150). The boxes featured packing checklist and room designator. While there they examined our house to make sure our stuff will fit in one of their trucks. I was assured it would. They responded quickly and professionally to e-mail request for a quote. Price for the whole job (including boxes) was quoted less than $900. Thats less than half of J&K quote (who moved us 6 years ago). We'll see how they do.

We used Craig Van Lines. They did a good job and were reasonable. We have also used United Van Lines couple of years before. They were good too..
