As most riders on LCCS know, the DNTC is completely overloaded. There are often more than 100 cars parked in unmarked spaces (source: CBAB Minutes from March).
Additionally, 25-30% of busses leaving DNTC are SRO (ibid). I find I must arrive at LEAST 20 minutes before the bus' scheduled departure in order to get a seat. Thankfully, it's not 20 degrees outside in the mornings any more.
While I appreciate there's no looming fare increase for "long haul" riders, I'd much rather be able to get a seat than have wi-fi installed on the bus (a current consideration).
Why can't LCCS see the advantage of putting a stop at Broadlands South lot. Seems it would be a simple matter to come off Exit 6 on the Greenway, stop at the Park & Ride lot at the shopping center (Harris Teeter) and get back on the Greenway at Exit 6. Use one of the Purceville runs - that aren't chronically full - to make this pick up. Certainly, this would help ease the crowds at DNTC.
Unfortunately, news from LCCS at this time says:
The Broadlands South lot ... located at the Broadlands South Shopping Center ... is currently a park & ride lot ... but at this point in time it is used only for carpool & vanpool parking. Some kind of commuter bus service will be available at this lot once the Loudoun County Parkway is completed.
Perhaps it's a parking issue at the shopping center - maybe 75 spots is inadequate?
