Also, for anyone who misses Greg Preast from Partlows Market for the butcher and seafood shop, Greg closed and was released from his lease recently. However, his family and cousin Mike Preast owns Springfield Butcher which uses the same food purveyors (suppliers) as Ruth Chris Steakhouse and the same ones that Greg used at Partlows. Springfield Butcher sells Prime and Choice Beef, Lamb, Pork, Poultry, Hormone Free Chicken, AMISH Meats (bacon, country sausage, etc.), Goose, Turkeys, Veal, Duck, and will sell a whole pig for a pig roast when requested. Springfield Butcher is the only Northern Virginia full-service butcher and seafood market in the area. Fresh seafood (all types) available too. One step above Wegmans (well worth the drive). Also, 4H is looking for interested kids and parents interested in a community club in Ashburn areas for Nutrition Clubs. If interested, respond in Broadlands Forum and I will contact you. Also, I am a food scientist and studying to be a Registered
Dietitian (now at home with quads) and am interested in starting a club of a modern-day version of Home Economics Clubs not just for working or stay-at-home moms (all interested women with or without kids). Topics would include meal preparation, nutrition, shopping, budgets, etc. I am a Home Economist also. Can meet at night or day time.

Quick tips--you can get freebie offers, coupon, food samples, etc. from food companies by subscribing to newsletters online or calling food manufacturers' customer service phone numbers. When our quads were on infant soy formula, I called Enfamil and told them I was using a competitor's product and received free soy formula for awhile for trying Enfamil's products. I cut my grocery bills in half by direct mail ordering from food companies. Free shipping beats paying high gas prices! Includes also all natural foods and any other consumer products not just for food! Takes time but well worth it.

I had told you of Short Pump Town Center (Best Mall--beats Tysons Corner). Located in Richmond,VA. Bigger than Tysons Corner! We will be receiving a two-level Barnes and Noble when Wegmans builds KSI's development in Leesburg in 2009. Brambleton is scheduled also perhaps a Barnes and Noble in 2006 or 2007. Trader Joe's will probably open a store in Ashburn or Leesburg by 2008.

Buy the Washington Business Journal--tells of all development in metro areas before it hits web sites or newspapers. Look also for business leads in the back of the WBJ (Washington Business Journal). Cracker Barrel is looking in Loudoun County. Walmart Supercenter and Sams Club gas station by 2007-2009 in Sterling location.

I thought that the Parlow's butcher was relocating to Safeway shopping center phase III, is this no longer true?

That was the information that some people had. I did know that Partlow's closed for some time during December. Didn't realize that he didn't renew his lease. He may have done that so he can work on furnishing the new location. Again, only speculation !!

carolina bros bbq took over the partlow's location. not sure what else they are going to sell, but the bbq is ok.

I saw Greg at Harris Teeter last week in Brambleton. He works there now and is moving to the Reston location this week. He said when his lease was up- he had an option to buy at the end- the price had doubled and they wanted all of their money now. And he just did not have the money they wanted when they wanted it.

Speakers Call For Less Dense West

Jan 24, 2006 -- Of the 39 speakers who turned out for a Saturday morning public input session before the Loudoun Planning Commission regarding proposed western Loudoun zoning changes, most favored lower development densities.

The board of supervisors has moved forward with a plan to lower the zoned densities in western Loudoun by changing the A-3 district, which allows densities up to one house per three acres, to new categories that call for 20- and 40-acre base densities. The proposed districts would offer subdivision options by right as well as through rezoning, allowing AR-1 to rezone for lots averaging 7.5 acres and AR-2 lots to rezone for lots averaging 15 acres.

The board sent its plan, spearheaded by a coalition of the board’s Independents, two Republicans and lone Democrat, to the commission for review.

While many of the speakers did not offer specific requests about western zoning, most favored lowering the density in western Loudoun, according to those who attended.

The commission will now work through the proposed zoning changes and forward a recommendation to the board of supervisors. Two public hearings have been scheduled before the planning commission in Leesburg:

• Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Loudoun County High School auditorium;

• Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. in the Board Room at the County Government Center

Nope--I own no land out there, and the people that do have enough yahoos trying to tell them what to do with it. Might go to the public input though--39 out of a quarter of a million (or even the 30% of the .25M that live west of 15) doesn't seem to be a very representative selection. There are something like 13,000 parcels out there. Wonder how many of those who did speak own as much land as they'd like their neighbors' minimum lot size to be...
