Middle School Child care

Spinning off from the topic of Pre-School/Kindergarten Daycare (I'm glad I'm out of those woods !!), can anyone advise me off what Working Mums with Middle Schoolers do ? We are moving to Broadlands in November (Vanmetre Time, could be whenever in the real world) and I need reliable before and after school supervision/care for my middle-schooler.

Any stay-at-home Mums with middle schoolers who provide care informally? Or am I bound by State laws to provide formal care till age 12 ?
