For Adoption!!
Hi! My name is Kazi, the sweetest cat in town. I am an all black male with one white dot on my chest. I am 3 ½ years old, and I am great with babies, kids and adults!! My family has allergies, and must find me a loving home quick! I am neutered, have all of my claws, and have never been outdoors. I love to play with feathers, scratch my scratching post, and take catnaps whenever I feel like it. I love to be brushed and am often accused of acting like a dog with my people-friendly attitude. I do, however, reserve the right to be as aloof as I feel when the mood strikes me.

If your cat was allergic to the kid, would you put your kid up for adoption?

I wasn't expecting such a "catty " reply, Smythla. I hope there is a loving home who would like to adopt our cat. We have asthma issues in the family. I hope everyone does have a nice holiday.

I hope you do find a loving home for your cat. He sounds like such a sweet character. If I did not have 4 already I'd be sorely tempted.

There's no chance to be able to keep him with medications? Reason I ask is that I'm actually allegic to cats but I've found that with Allegra I am okay.

And if your cat had asthma caused by your kids, would you put your kids up for adoption?

You should have thought about your asthma issues before you brought a poor defenseless cat into your home who had no say in the matter.

If you do not get any takers for adoption, please consider the "Feline Foundation". They have people who foster cats until an owner can be found. FWIW, we also own cats and love/spoil them very much, but we would never put our ANIMALS before our child.

Did you ever consider that it may be a NEW baby in the family that is alergic to the existing cat?

From your reply, you would obviously get rid of the new baby.

Thank you everyone for your replies. We are concerned for Kazi more than any other. I appreciate all of the input and ideas you have shared. My 2 year old cannot take allegra, and we have exhausted many avenues in our attempt to maintain Kazi as a part of our family. I am glad that you all took the time to share your thoughts on the options that are available to us. Please be assured that we will find a great home for him!

My wife and I are both cat lovers and have had 3 cats at one point. After years of cat ownership, we both developed allergies to cats. As they eventually died off, we have never replaced them.
Do not assume that the allergies/asthma issues were known before the cat came along.

smythla - figured with all your degrees you would understand something about allergies and how they can develop. I have also developed a slight allegic reaction to cats AFTER owning 3 of them for a few years. Perhaps you are just trying to cause a ruckus as you seem to do with most of your posts.

The point is that the cat had no say in being adopted any mor ethan the baby did about being born.

When you adopt a pet, you take on the responsibility of taking care of that animal for the animal's ENTIRE LIFE.

I find it sad that people consider their pets to be disposable.

Pets are disposable if they interfere with HUMAN life and well-being. Personally, I find it disgusting when people place animal life on equal footing with human life.

Sunny IS taking the responsibility to find a home for the critter instead of just dropping it off at the pound.

Sunny should have considered this possiblity before getting a cat.

And I don't think advertising your cat to total strangers is taking responsibility. It's just making yourself feel better than taking the cat to the pound where it's sure to be gassed or whatever they do there these days.

She states that the cat is 3 1/2 years old. Then goes on to state that the child with the problem is only 2 years old.

Obviously the cat was there first.

She also states that she has tried MANY avenues to keep the cat, but hey have not succeeded.

Sometimes we do not always get what we want. Given a choice, I'm sure Sunny would have preferrd a child who was not severly allergic to the cat (just as people do not CHOOSE to have children with birth defects). People do not choose to have their house hit by a tornado, but it happens.

What you want and what you get do not always agree.

Another example. You do not want Sunny to get rid of the cat. Again, you will not get what you want.

If you are so concerned with the cat's well being, why don't you offer to adopt the cat. So far all you have done is complained and offered no solutions. That means you do not truely care about the cat, just about saying what you think.

People who truely care about animals back up their words with action.

What (if any) action are you willing to take to help Sunny?

Well then, Sunny should have decided to NOT have more kids since they possibly could be allergic to the cat once they are born! :) After all, doesn't everyone make (human) life decisions based on non-human life? I know that I do!

Exactly. The CAT was there first. Not the kid. If she was planning to have kids she should have THOUGHT about that before getting a cat and waited to get a cat until after having kids. Or she should have gotten a pet that doesn't shed or have dander.

So the poor cat is the one who has to pay the price by LOSING ITS LIFE.

Which is why Sunny should not have been so selfish as to get a pet before knowing whether or not a pet would fit in her lifestyle. It's always the innocent animal that pays the price.

1. Sunny is not MY responsibility.

2. I already have enough pets. I know better than to adopt more pets than I can care for, the same way that I know not to have more kids than I can afford.
