Are there any book clubs in the area? Want to start one?

I belong to an all-female book group. We generally meet about once a month. I missed the last meeting so I don't know the name of the new book or the next meeting date. I'll check it out and send you an email.

Bookclub???? Why would anyone feel the need to join a club to read a book? When I was a kid we just read by choice...... Oh wait, I can't read. Nevermind! :-)

P.S. Donna - I had to! hehehehe

I apologize for not responding sooner. Work has been crazy, and I have been sick.

It does sound like there is sufficient interest to start another book group.

I wish I could invite everyone to join the book group to which I belong, but I can't. When there were just one or two people, it was possible, but interest has grown since then. And now, there are just too many people interested -- which is a good thing! We meet in our homes, so space is limited. Add to it the fact that there is never any parking available on our street, and it just won't work.

Maybe we could all meet informally and get organized, anyone have any thoughts?

Please e-mail me if you are still interested

Perhaps you should join us, you might glean the following:
• The definition of Sarcasm:

\Sar"casm\, n. [F. sarcasme, L. sarcasmus, Gr. sarkasmo`s, from sarka`zein to tear flesh like dogs, to bite the lips in rage, to speak bitterly, to sneer, fr. sa`rx, sa`rkos, flesh.] A keen, reproachful expression; a satirical remark uttered with some degree of scorn or contempt; a taunt; a gibe; a cutting jest.

• The correct spelling of Tongue, T-O-N-G-U-E

- One man's sarcasm is another man's opinion.
- so I misspelled a word, tie me to the stake and light the fire!

I'm quite sure everyone has made typos at some point. Not everyone has so much spare time as to cut/paste definitions from dictionary.com let alone spell check every post to an internet message board. Perhaps if I was turning in a thesis or published work, I'd be a bit more careful.

Boy, talk about personal attacks...and on one's intelligence at that...

Brim, Brim, Brim...

I was waiting for you to say something about pdonnadurk pointing out your misspelling. I seem to recall in a prior thread when I mistakenly used the term "coop" instead of "co-op" that you said, and I quote "And it's co-op, a 'babysitter coop' is a cage or pen you keep babysitters in. :)" (see the thread at http://www.hoa.broadlands.org/forum34/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=599&whichpage=1)

What is it that they say about those who live in glass houses??? Priceless! Way to go, pdonnadurk!

Oh, and BTW, GO PATS!

Oh BRIM, it wasn't personal. It was my opinion which, you so eloquently reminded us all recently, I am entitled to. Additionally I do not need to spell check anything but who wants to revisit the COOP vs. CO-OP debacle. Finally Bob is a friend and was kidding, you I suspect were not. Really, why if you have no interest in contributing positively to a discussion do you feel you have to respond? Some of us really want to use these forums to improve our community and share information.

True, but I didn't go out of my way to look up definitions on dictionary.com and paste them to further illustrate my point. Furthermore, coop and co-op are two different words with different meanings whereas I clearly misspelled one word into a non-word.

I can take it as well as dish it out, but I'm not one to say "Oh that's wrong!", then go get the rule book, look up the appropriate infraction, and rub someone's nose in it. I see it as quite a difference.

It's not my fault Manning was freezing and the Pats are good enough on offense to always just manage to score enough points that the competition. They do have an excellent D tho. :(

...and how would one know that one used dictionary.com to cut/paste definitions from -- unless they had time to go to dictionary.com themselves???

Hey, I just said 'I agree with you' in so many words and I was jumped on. I hadn't said anything up until that point and this thread ahs been around a month, so...sarcasm or not...I used his post to get my muted opinion out there. What would the world be like if everyone agreed with each other. :(

Umm, because I suspected thats where it came from so I checked it out?

My point is, that I don't go out of my way to find supporting facts to slam other people's intelligence.

His books have sucked lately. There will never again be anything quite like Red Storm/Cardinal/Sum of All Fears/etc.

Rainbow Six was quite good. I enjoy the Clark/Chavez series more than the Ryan series anymore, more gadgetry and tatical stuff than politics.

I would agree with you about the tactical v. political preference. But it seems to me that the early Ryan books were mostly based on operational stuff, with the political stuff in the background. It wasn't until Ryan became VP/President (Debt of Honor?) that you started seeing all of the geo-political story lines.

Well PD, flattery will get you everywhere- I accept. Let's toss around ideas for a book and a good day to meet. I am about to buy a book called [u]</u>No Back Up [u]</u> by Rosemary Dew. It is a true story about a woman in the FBI and her experiences, etc. However, I am open to reading anything. I think Tuesday nights would be good- unless it becomes a mom's book club and we do it with the kid's in tow- then I am available during the days as well.
