Hello neighbors! My name is Rachel Johnson and I am walking the San Diego marathon in June for the American Stroke Association. I'm going to "represent the Broadlands". By joining the American Stroke Association’s Train To End Stroke program I have a coach, a team, training schedules, clinics, and a reason that makes this more than a personal goal. I am helping to raise funds for stroke research, education, and advocacy programs.

The following are some stroke statistics of which you may not be aware...

Every 45 seconds someone suffers a stroke
Every 3.1 minutes someone dies of a stroke
There are 4.4 million stroke survivors
29% of people who have strokes are under age 65.

Over the course of the next 5 months, I will be walking hundreds of miles through Ashburn to prepare. I will also be busy raising thousands of dollars for the American Stroke Association. I am writing to ask for your support in this effort through your good thoughts and through your generous contribution to the American Stroke Association.

Even if you are not able to contribute financially for this cause, please spread the statistics provided to increase awareness, and watch out for me on the roads and trails :D All donations are tax deductible and the ratio is 70/30 - for every dollar raised, 70 cents goes to direct research and outreach, 30 cents toward the marathon.

Hopefully this link will take you to my webpage where I will be logging my progress and fundraising goals. Thanks all, and see you around the 'hood!

P.S. - I could really use a walking partner to help me stick with the program. I'm not a runner - not even much of an exerciser - so if you are looking for a walking partner send me an email at sunnydog71@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Hi - just bumping this message up to the top again. I've started training and have completed my first 5 mile walk on the W&OD and daily walks of 2.5 miles. If anyone is interested in walking with me drop me an email at sunnydog71@yahoo.com - worst experience thus far has been a close run in with deer ;)
I have one partner in the neighborhood and am open to others who are interested. If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution to the American Stroke Association please visit the website from the first posting or send me an email I can pick up a check made out to American Stroke Association.
Happy trails, Rachel.
