O'Faolains had a decent after-work crowd.. I don't think it held up compared to Kirpatrick's 'late night' crowd.

Word on the street is that they are not taking any of the brewing equipment and not auctioning it either. Usually that means someone else wants to move in there right away.

I cross my fingers for an "East Coast" Bells Brewery.

I hope whoever moves in continues to make good root beer. I loved buying locally-made high-quality beverages!

Not sure if whomever moves in will, but I think OD RootBeer will still be available widely in the area.

$65,000 per year and by invitation only. Talk about killing your customer base. Too bad a lot of contractors will be losing money on that. :angryfire:

    Re: Now Closed...

From what I understand - the last owner just stopped paying the bills. It is now re-opened under new ownership as The Village Grill (www.villgrill.com).

the two companies are not related, in case anybody thought so.. the food at O'Brady's was pretty awful, so was the service. that's what i think happened to them.

Vill Grill is pretty good- i enjoy it.

Expect this list to grow in the coming months:

    - Thai Basil in Broadlands
    - Burapa Thai in Ashburn (original restaurant, which went downhill after being sold when owners opened Burapa in Lansdowne)
    - Pacific Restaurant in Sterling

gee two Thai places closed- there are still 4 left within 5 miles of use. no worries Thai food fans- Anothai is outstanding- you still have a close option for excellence!

Pacific has been gone awhile- think Cafe Opera without the Polynesian influence. again, another fantastic option exists to fill these needs.

SOMEONE open a Peruvian chicken joint! no competition, a need to be filled, and if those pads half to be for restautrants, do something that HAS to be done!

Vegetarian (not MY bag but hey- it's not about ME... always... )

Southern Cookin' Kitchen! black eyed peas and collard greens- YYYYYES!

Mennonite Stuff that foodie talks about- dunno what that entail, but again NO COMPETITION.

but i tell ya, one more Italian, Asian, Burger, Sushi or Mediterranean place is DOOMED TO FAIL.

Cafe Opera is underrated -- and pretty good -- but I don't put it up there with Pacific, which was damn good and probably the best in the area, in my opinion. Big loss in an area with average Chinese food, Cafe Opera being the exception. (I just wish Cafe Opera opened earlier and didn't close in the afternoon. I've driven by several times at 11:15 or 3:30 and had to go elsewhere.)

I have a good friend who is Thai and I've been to just about every Thai place in a 15 mile radius -- there are a lot -- and Anothai is also pretty good, but not the best around. When it opened, a lot of Thais went there. But something changed and it is no longer a favorite of the Thais I know.

In all fairness, people have different tastes for Thai, everyone has a favorite and I don't know of a consensus for best Thai restaurant in the area. As someone who has been told that he likes "Americanized" Thai, Busara in Reston is my favorite. I also liked the original Burapa in Ashburn before they opened in Lansdowne and sold the original restaurant, which has since gone out of business.

Some people who like "authentic" Thai prefer the original Thai Basil in Chantilly. The Ashburn location wasn't as popular -- and many said not as good -- and they were hurt by no liquor license and too many other choices in Ashburn, both Thai and otherwise.

i will be the first to admit Asian in NOT a cuisine to trust my opinion on- i don't really like many types, and most of it does not satisfy me. the big thing i liove about Anothai is the fresh herbs- the flavor has SO MUCH FLAVOR! and the atmosphere is really nice.

i definitely defer to others on what great Asian is since i am not a fan.

One thing I failed to mention about Anothai is the owner. She is very friendly (as is the owner of the original Burapa and Burapa Classic in Lansdowne) and that is something very appealing to me, and brings me back. The same can't always be said at the other Thai places in Ashburn.

Speaking of friendly restaurant owners, I also like Taste of the World in Herndon. They have a wonderful ethnic variety (Filipino, Ethiopian, Mexican, Indian, Jamacian, Thai, etc.), good food and a friendly staff and owner.

I have seen Taste of the World and wondered how good it could be with it offering so many different types of cuisine under a single roof. I am wary of restaurants that try to be a jack of all trades type of place, but I guess I will try it next time.
