this is not at all strange to me, especially of you have a kid WITH you and you are clearly looking for a lost pet. i think that's different than intentionally going to a place to specifically talk to children. i wouldn't have chased you away with a broomstick! kids are outside, they notice animals, they can definitely be a big help. but if i saw someone hanging around the school waiting for kids to get out and walking up to them- hackles up.

    glad you found your dog!!!

I see no problem with adults handing flyers to children and asking them to be on the lookout for a pet. But of course it is up to each parent how vigilant or paranoid the want to be. :p

I think the scenario of a person asking for help finding their pet is THE classic one used to teach "stranger danger." I would not be thrilled if I had a middle schooler approached on the way out of school but I'd be quite concerned if it were my elementary schoolagers. When they're little you have to teach them easy rules to remember and don't talk to strangers is a given. You can't shade the meaning with, well, only if they're holding a flyer, or seem really sincere, or are female not male etc etc. Definitely post big fliers at the intersections near the schools - the kids look at fliers.

I really hope you find your kitten!

    Hey Oz,
I walked up and down that road and drove all around also, but didn't see or hear anything. Lots of zoomy cars though on Truro Parish. It's not that far of a stretch. I back to Waxpool Village, so for him to get to Truro Parish through the woods would be a straight shot. Thanks for the tip....I wish everybody read these forums!

FOUND: Orange Kitten, black collar, blue tag!!

GREAT NEWS!! Our flyers worked, and a new neighbor three doors down had the kitten on her deck the whole time, but didn't call thinking he would just go home. Another neighbor saw my flyer, and walked him down to me!!

I'm so happy and relieved and thankful to all of you who were willing to help!!

We still have some mean people who insist on tearing down flyers, these are not hopeful souls. But I've learned to never, never, never, never, ever, never, ever, never, ever...give up.

I'll clean up my own flyers, thanks.

And to the Grinch that took down the other flyers too soon: Karma is a cruel mistress.

Donzi...happy to hear Cody is safe and at home. He must have confused decks! Now that he's had a taste of the great outdoors, you may want to get him micro-chipped!
