Does anyone else think Sal's prices are getting out of hand? Every few times we go (around once a month or so), there's a new menu with higher prices for the same quality food.

Also ordered a pie once with extra sauce, which should be a minimal, if any, charge, and it was THREE dollars extra! For sauce that cost pennies to make that amount. Also got mischarged for a full dinner salad when I ordered a 3 dollar side salad last time. AND, they no longer give fire dept. discounts.

I think their food is good, but we can't afford to order. Pizza night is suppossed to be inexpensive. In NJ every good place in town had a "cheap" pizza night, like 10 dollar large pie on Wednesday or whatever and we ordered every week. But when the prices look like Sal's we're lucky if we can afford it in our budget once a month or so. Never any good coupons or specials. I really want this place to survive and thrive, but I'm starting to get very uneasy with the price gauging around here. Thoughts?

man, i think everything in ashburn is overpriced. if i were a reporter, i would go to these businesses and ask: are you raising prices because you don't get enough business to stay in business at your current prices, or because this zip code implies that people can and will pay more for the convenience of having you so close by? or is it to keep up with the same prices your competitors charge?

then i'd go to comparable businesses in Reston, Centreville and Leesburg, and see what THEY charge for the same product.

    it'd be an interesting study...

We stopped going to Sals a few months ago (my three strikes rule). Unfortunate, because I really liked their pizza.

I agree, it's not only restuarants....it's contractors, etc. For some reason they think everyone in our zip code is wealthy!! Not so!

Ashburn zipcodes have an above average family income for the DC area. Retailers know this. You control the cash so shop around.

I was told by a daycare center that the prices they set for Ashburn are because the corporate office knows that Ashburn is a more affluent neighborhood. Therefore, the prices are higher.

I couldn't believe she volunteered that information.

to a certain degree- this makes sense. however i think it's become ridiculously bloated in certain industries. and maybe there is more money being made in Ashburn than a few other places but there are also bigger families! I am one of only few families that i know with only 1 kid.

Agree with teak...people around here spend, spend and spend no matter what the price and then complain (or don't complain) about bad service at DD because afterall "it's just donuts." Be a smart consumer and control your purse.

BTW - we haven't had their riceballs in a while. Wonder if they're still on the menu and "affordable".

awesome point. we DON'T patronize places that suck around here just because they are close. if you don't earn or biz, you don't GET our biz. money and time are too hard to come by to waste either on mediocrity. i've also walked out or decided NOT buy certain items or use a particular service when i found out the price was far higher that what i consider reasonable. namely hair and nail salons, and a particular sandwich shop whose prices were more than a DOLLAR higher than the same chain in Centreville.

and we had a rice ball a few months ago.. still huge, still delicious still worth every penny. :)

Nail and hair salons are really bad in this area......I would think with so much competition they'd be more competitive

Yes you would think so, but why lower their prices when their customers are willing to pay for the whole enchilada and then some.

Bonefish is on the up too - used to be a reasonably priced evening, now it's heading north under guise of new menu.
