I figured this news was important enough for me to come out of my self-imposed 'retreat' from the forums since last September.

I read a 'Tweet' from Erica Garman early today regarding Sorrento Grill being forced to shut down because the owner of the restaurant row was facing foreclosure. I tracked down her source, which seems to be Tammi Marcoullier's blog:

    http://inside-outblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/ashburns-sorrento-grill-serves-last.html

The important part of Tammi's posting is as follows:

"According to Dave, the manager of this location, the restaurant row landlord foreclosed on the property and the bank that now owns the loan asked all the restaurants in the small suite of spaces on Waxpool Road (next to the Embassy Suites) to leave about two months ago."

To give folks a better idea of what we're talking about here, this is the row of restaurants where Five Guys, Moe's, Spicy Pickle, etc, are located. Word on the street is that the bank wants everyone out, which doesn't make any sense to me. Wouldn't the bank prefer having PAYING tenants rather than an empty row of vacant properties?

Anyone have any insight as to what's going on here???

Well, if what the manager of the Sorrento Grill said is accurate, then yes, Preet would be gone as well...

Unless they plan on bulldozing it since it's a terrible location and therefore not a good long term investment??

scuttlebutt says that the original landlord of that plaza defaulted and a new landlord took over in late summer. allegedly that new landlord is a hardliner and would rather have tenants OUT than work with them to try and improve biz there.

maybe he sees that plaza for the sinking ship that it is with hardly any growth potential without drastic changes being made, and has big plans once the current tenants are forced- sorry- ENCOURAGED- to leave...

just speculation. i have NO facts...

Starbucks is still paying rent for that location; they're choosing not to run anything in there until they figure it would be cost effective to 're-open'. That's what was reported to me previously anyhow.

Willing to bet that McD's has a no-competition clause in their contract, as does Wendy's in he other mall.

I think that may have changed. There are "for lease" signs in the windows.

Yesterday, I noticed the For Lease signs were gone and the coverings were off the windows. Maybe some activity?
