These items are more of a special recycling item and they actually handle them totally separate from the other recycling. These items are not put into the truck like normal trash and recycling but into side holding areas to be deposited later. Is it possible that the 1st time they came through this side compartment was full but when they came back for the trash it was not, so they took it then?

I had asked this before, but the answer was to use the serial number, which doesn't exist on recycling bins. Can we mark the recycling bins with our street number? One of our extras blew away already.

Also, although they do have serial numbers, would it be ok to mark the trashcan too for convenience sake?

Yes, you can ID your recycling bin. We bought large, clearly visible stick on numbers at HD. Or just use masking tape and write your house number with a permanent marker.

Ok I don't know what's up with this. I put my lawn refuse out for pickup today and I just went out to look and Patriot didn't take the bags. A quick look down the street and I can see a lot of Home Depot Refuse bags sitting out.

It's all lawn junk. Old mulch and some dirt. I have no idea why they wouldn't take them. It looks like they opened up the bags and decided not to take them.

Please tell me your address. It is possible that they are still collecting. They are some times in the neighborhood until after 6. If your entire street has not yet been picked up, that is probably the case. As you probably know, yard waste will not be picked up in plastic bags and there is a weight limit of 35 lbs per bag.

They did come around with a third time today and picked up the rest of the lawn waste bags. I guess they were full when they got to the top of the hill the last time I saw the truck. The first truck took the regular waste. They use much smaller trucks then the old place did.

Once again, our neighbor's trash bag was scavaged by a raccoon last night leaving trash strewn everywhere, so imagine my surprise when Patriot showed up and picked up every piece while the owner stood outside and watched him :screwy:

Patriot is definitely outperforming their predecessor!

Will Patriot empty yard waste (cut grass, etc.) from a trash can dedicated for yard waste, or does it have to be in those paper bags (like those from home depot)?

You can either use paper bags or a trash receptacle marked yard waste. Look in the July newsletter for complete information on recycling with Patriot.

I thought pizza boxes were acceptable for the yard waste as of the switch over.

Inside our yard waste bag Monday we had two pizza boxes on top of the grass clippings. Instead of taking them with the yard waste they were taken out and put in our trash totter (with the top left open, that's how my wife noticed the switch).

Can pizza boxes go in the yard waste bags?

I thought so too and that's what we've been doing. But the pizza boxes in our bags are typically covered up by the yard waste or compost material. Hmmmmm..........

It was announced in the August and September newsletters that due to low participation recyclable papers would no longer be picked up on Mondays with the yard waste. Looking back at the article I see it was not clear that pizza boxes should have been noted as well as newspapers and I apologize for that over sight. Patriot has said they would continue to collect newspapers if they were put out but has asked that we try to inform the residents that Thursday would now be the date for all recycling. Pizza boxes should be put in the trash as they can not be recycled with other paper and cardboard.

If you have any other questions please either contact me at the HOA office 703-7829-9714 or call Patriot at 1-703-257-7100.

Does this mean that Patriot is no longer collection "kitchen waste" on Mondays for the "worm farm?"

Most of our garbage is going in the compost bin, but we don't put meat or fat. Was thinking of putting it out with the yard waste, as they mentioned at the annual meeting.

    Is that still an option?

Considering the current road conditions, does Patriot still plan to pick-up trash tomorrow?
