We have friends planning on moving to the area and one has a job in DC on 20th street an Constitution Ave.

I think she will be leaving about 6:00am and returning around 4:00.

Does anyone have some suggestions for routes to take? Metro? Specific Metro stops? Greenway?

How long do you think a typical commute will take?

@ 6AM traffic is relatively light. My husband takes the Greenway to Rt123 (chain bridge, North), to GW Parkway, to Key Bridge.

If he leaves between 5:45AM- 6AM window, he will be at his office 18th & M St by 6:40AM, however if he leaves anytime after 7AM it can take up to 2 hours to get in. It is all about the timing to avoid the "rush hour" congestion.

    Hope that helps

I second the Loudoun Commuter bus for travel to DC. I don't know what the fee is nowadays but I used to pay $40/week. The commute leaving from Ashburn around 7am to 12th and New York took 45 minutes. It may take a little longer for you and your destination and they've probably added more stops to certain routes. It's a comfortable, hands free ride so you can read, listen to your iPod, or catch up on your zzz's.

... and 20th and Constitution will be one of the first stops in the morning and last at night on the bus. Definitely the way to go, although the 6am/4pm commute shouldn't be too bad.

I may be shopping for new car pool buddy... I drive right past 20/Const every morning. Usually pass there around 7am inbound and 4:15 outbound.

    Send me PM if interested...
