Maple trees out front

Our builder was Washington Homes, 11 years ago, in Broadlands north. We never heard mention of any compliance issues with the county. We only heard that Van Metre wanted to make each street tree lined and unique so that no 2 intersecting streets had the same trees.

 

Sorry, I was just talking about the area in Southern Walk. When I was part of these conversations, it was about 4 years ago and only referred to what was happening to that part of the community and what Van Metre was doing in response to what was a localized issue. This is the only area (top of the hill in Southernwalk) where I think this happened.... where the builder came along, placed a bunch of flags in the front and back yards of SFHs. The quantity of trees was silly and placement was not any better.

The trees that were done 10-12 years ago is a whole different issue in North Broadlands. I was only speaking to the time when I saw this happening roughly 4-5 years ago in one section in Southernwalk.

 

I'm on the top of the hill on SW too. VM cut corners on our house, so I wouldn't be surprised if they cut corners meeting the county olibigation for tree planting too. Seems to me that they should have known better than to plant sycamore trees that will be 100 feet tall. Any realtors or lawyers out there that think VM should address this?

 

I also live in a Washington Homes house. The builder placed 2 Maple trees in my front yard and then the Developer came and place a "flag" in my front yard. When I asked the guy he said that the tree had to go in the front yard where it was marked. I asked them are you sure as the flag was 2' away from the one Maple tree that survived. The landscaper said it had to go there, so I had WH move the living tree over to the location of the dead tree and plant it there. Both trees are doing fine, but neither one of them planted the trees correctly.

Now, when WH was marking the yard for all of the trees they provided I was able to move the trees to the back and side of my yard so the middle would be opened up for the kids to play in. If I remember correctly it was 19 trees in my back yard alone. I was lucky as my neighbors did not meet with the landscaper who was marking their yards and the trees were all over. Lucky for them most didn't survive and they were able to have another landscaper come over and install new trees and design the yard in such a way as it can be used by the kids.

 

The home builder (Van Metre for all the folks in SouthernWalk except for one section of townhouses) generally installed 2 trees per house.
As part of the Development conditions and approved proffer from the Developer (Van Metre/Mobil Land) when Broadlands was created, the Developer was required by the County to install trees as a "street tree" program. A certain number/type of trees were required to be installed a certain distance apart.
That's why they sometimes plopped them down a few feet away from existing ones. They counted off the distance and dropped one in the ground.
The Developer is required to keep the trees in the ground and alive until the street is off bond with the county. Once that happens, the homeowner can remove (be sure to read the HOA guidelines for tree removal) or move trees around.

 

Does anyone know if Ridgeway Drive has Sycamore trees in each and every yard along this road??? Im guessing that its VERY extremely expensive in tearing down these two trees?
