Look, I know what you are saying but until Parallel or any other place says No Children Allowed, IT AIN"T GONNA HAPPEN!

I grew up in eastern Loudoun and guess what, there has never been a place for date night, we went to bars in Fairfax.

FWIW, I think that Clydes does a decent date-night crowd on the weekend, especially after 9 when most kids are in bed.

That is an excellent idea. I can't imagine it would hurt business at all. If anything, it may get them more business.

hmm, defining clientele expectations worked for THIS lady:

    NO SCREAMING CHILDREN TOLERATED

    :)

come to think of it, ALL restaurants should follow her lead! if people aren't considerate enough to remove themselves and their child from the dining area during a meltdown, then make it a rule, so now the waitstaff is empowered not to make everyone have to just deal with a temper tantrum. ooh- they provide calming chambers near the bathrooms!

I think people have a right to take their children along when they go someplace but I also think that parents in Ashburn are so used to taking their kids to all the restaurants that they forget that not EVERY restaurant is a good place for kids. Even if your child is well behaved and quiet, I don't think he/she should go to absolutely every place. Sometimes at lunchtime some of these places might be okay but not in the evening. That's just my two cents.

And I have a right to eat my meal without the nerve crushing sound of shrieking children. Your kids are not my responsibility, nor is it my cross to bear when in public. If your children are screaming, throwing a tantrum, or running wild like animals - take them outside. Discipline them. Contain them. There are some parents that let their children act like animals in public. They should not. My mother never let it get that far, we were removed from the establishment and learned our lesson.

And lets not get all excited and upset. Im not talking about YOU or your children specifically. This is a general post.

I see your point. What bothers me, is this:

It seems unfair to the wait staff that their tables were being used as seating without orders.

Wow--that's a lot of feedback form my original post...Since so many of you saw my point of view it makes me wonder should I have told the management my complaints/thoughts? Or explain why we loved the place but decided to leave? They were so friendly and tried to overcompensate by checking on all the tables near there. When asked how my appetizer was all I said was "It would taste better w/o the balloons" I think he got the message, but we were right there when the big party came in and the manager did not want to turn them away in spite of the number of kids, crayons, balloons etc. Kinda made me wonder if a complaint would even be worth it.

yes and YES. if their goal is to cater to the adult crowd in Ashburn, allowing people with small children to take it over will CHASE the adult crowd away.

(and for those who don't know me I AM a mom, but I am also a wife, and it's inconsiderate to take kids to a place that is clearly meant for adults- whether they post a sign or not. the name WINE BISTRO should evoke enough forethought that it's not chuckee cheese and consideration for those expecting an adult night out.)

there are tons of sitters in ashburn, chk the newsletter!

Perhaps it is also a timing issue. I have been to many restaurants in the area and the later in the evening, significantly less children. PERHAPS by the time the music was to start or soon thereafter, the large party would have left.

IMO 5:30-7:00 PM is the prime time for dinner for those families with younger children. Soon after that, the likely of "eating with children" is greatly reduced. YMMV

here's a question- what about the nature of conversation that he would over hear (unless his pod is turned WAAY up?) you know the way normal adults speak at a bar is much more coarse than what you normally hear at Ihop. i'm not talking about over the top drunks- i'm talking about the jokes you make, racy comments, and subjects you discuss in an adult atmosphere while drinking and relaxing without your OWN anklebiters around.

now THEY have to censor themselves at a wine bistro because kids are there? no, they shouldn't have to in my opinion..

    what do you all think?

I was at the Ashburn rink last night w/ my 5yo and a bunch of boys (10-12 yos) walked behind us talking loudly about how the girl lifted her skirt and showed her panties to everyone. I would have preferred not to have to explain to my 5yo what the heck he was talking about but she asked.

Inappropriate conversation will happen anywhere. Occasionally you will find that if you just ask the table around you to please refrain, they will be nice and do so (I happen to have a girlfriend who will NOT refrain and for that reason, I don't bring my kids around her much).

I iunderstand what you mean but that is not my point. In a bar, in a wine bistro, in a strip club, you EXPECT to comfortably be able to have adult conversations. Its not that what we are saying is innappropriate, but that maybe it's a the child presence that doesn't fit.

Whether it is a bar or not should not excuse boorish behavior or one's volume control.

Also, most bars and strip clubs have age requirements.
