I know they do gutter work, so it is certainly worth it to give them a call. I don't know if they have a minimum charge that might make them less economical than a smaller company, but it is worth a shot. For something like that, you might also try looking up a gutter specific contractor. Gutterman Services http://www.guttermanservices.com/ is a local company that has been around for ~20 years and has a similarly strong reputation.

As an FYI, standard gutter is 5" with a 2"x3" downspout. If it is a catch problem, a 6" gutter will help, but if it is a flow problem you will probably want to go to a 3"x4" downspout to get more water moving out of the gutter. Or both, of course...

    Suttonan,

Thanks for the reply; I'll try giving them a call. If that doesn't work, I'll give Gutterman a call.

The problem is that the way the gutters are routed on our townhouse, the front half of the roof all drains to one side of the roof over a room that sticks out on the second floor; this in turn all dumps into a 2-3 foot section of 5 inch gutter. If it is a gentle rain, all is well but if it is a hard rain or there is some impediment in the gutter (say a leaf) then the gutter can't handle it and water cascades down the outside and some leaks inside.

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

    Best regards,
    signifer

    Hi Sara's Mom,

After reading this thread and seeing the problems you had, I'm just so sorry we never met! In my line of business, we deal with many emergency roof repairs and do our very best to give same day service for all our customers, but unfortunately we just didn't have the manpower to accomodate you till Monday. Hopefully, you don't have another roofing situation but if you do, please give us a call at (703) 475-2446, you'll be very pleased you did!

    Sincerely,
    Steven B.

Due to last week's crazy windstorms, a big 10 ft. piece of aluminum trim came off of our roof. I called Roofer911 (spoke w/ Steve B.) and they took care of things immediately. Highly recommend for quality, quick-fix roofing repairs :)

We had a good experience with Steve B. from Roofer911. He was prompt, gave us a clear estimate of what to expect, and was very professional. Turns out when they got up there to do the work, it was far more substantial than the estimate. Instead of just caulking around the vent pipe, he had to replace two full sheets of plywood, roofing paper and shingles, (which had to be special ordered,) as the wood was completely rotten. He also completely inspected the roof, caulked another cracked stack pipe and noticed that there was no caulking on the roof vent, which he also caulked. He did all of this additional work without charging any more than the original estimate, stating that he always stands behind his price. He guaranteed the work for a year, and said we would not need to worry about any leaks there again. His workers were polite, kept us fully informed as to scheduling and conditions, and cleaned up completely after themselves.

I lost some shingles in the recent high winds. I called Roofer911 and spoke with Steve. He came out on a Saturday (yay!) while I was out. Took pictures, created an estimate, and e-mailed them to my iPhone. I was able to review the pictures and written estimate and approve the work. By the time I got home the work was done. That was fast!

I had tried to get Apex to come out for months (not an urgent situation with the roof). called and left a message. he returned the call when I was out and said he would call back. he didn't. Left two additional messages with no response. Apex may do good work, but I noticed how many times in this thread the folks had to use Cliff to get a response. Prefer not to have to go that route. I called Roofer911. Returned my call. Came that day. Repaired that afternoon. Very professional and prompt.

I also had a good experience with Steve at Roofer911. he came out, gave me pictures and an estimate and fixed my roof the very same day. Couldn't ask for better or faster service.

I have an ongoing roofing "issue" thanks to VM. I sent a request to Roofer911 today through their website and even stated in the email this was not an emergency. Steven called me back within 5 minutes, we discussed the issue and he will be out to look at my roof this weekend. Considering there will probably lots of leaking from the rains today and yesterday, I was impressed with the response. Will update.

Did you end up going with Roofer911? I was just up on the roof and saw a few issues (cracked vent surrounds, some bad flashing where my townhouse is attached to the next/etc) and I think my wife would be happier if I called a "pro"

We had Stephen from Roofer 911 come and he called within 5 minutes of my message. He was out here within days (my issue was not an emergency) and did a thermal scan. He told us where we had a previous leak, where we were missing insulation (thx VM), and that our gutters were not installed correctly. He gave us a very reasonable quote. Since we are in the process of finishing our basement, we cannot do the roof repair just yet but we know what it will cost us and have a little time before getting him back out there. We will definitely use him.

Unfortunatelly, I do not remember who you are because we deal with so many customers each and every day. I understand finishing your basemnent is very important but please understand, improperly pitched gutters can cause alot of water to settle inside the exterior walls of your home and lead down to your basement from heavy rain or melting snow if not pitched pitched properly.

Last week, with the major rain, I noticed that we had water simply pouring behind our front gutter onto the driveway. We've had major difficulties with this gutter in the past and had replaced it with a larger capacity gutter which did not address the issues of where the water was actually going.

As water needs to go where it is supposed to or you'll have big issues, I called Roofer 911 this morning. Steve called back immediately, came out within a couple of hours to inspect things and then sent a crew out this afternoon, even with the cold temperatures and high winds.

It turned out that we had bigger issues than just the improperly pitched gutters (as in all of the them!) and will next be engaging in some drywall work and insulation replacement. :( I'd rather just have this issue than what it would have become had we not taken care of things.

I was very impressed today by the professionalism shown by everyone!

VM houses have a lot of issues with gutters that are not pitched correctly and improperly installed shingles based on the way the nail gun was held and null and voiding any shingle warranty down the line.

Ours was built by Engle. We also have foundation issues and they've gone out of business so we are out of luck.

We used Kirk at Apex Roofing, ph#703-361-4483 a year or so ago - to fix some siding and was very pleased! He does siding as well as roofs. We had no luck with several other people - they wouldn't even come out when they said they would! Kirk was professional and competent.

Best to outsource the risk Boomer. It's not worth it.
