Oya, vultures are Federally Protected birds. Nobody is permitted to do any harm to them, which is why the USDA was brought in to help with the issue. As such, there was no choice but to treat them humanely. This was all discussed previously in a few threads... You can ask that they be treated humanely all you want, we didn't have a choice!!! Nobody can harm a vulture except for the USDA under strict guidelines/conditions.

Additionally, this was NOT an issue that was dealt with by the HOA, but one that was dealt with between a set of private residents and the USDA. The only involvement the HOA had was to allow access to a common area to the USDA for them to perform their work. I see no need for a community-wide Official Announcement for a non-HOA action, whose only result was the natural relocation of a large group of roosting vultures who impacted two streets in our community.

Really? If it involved two streets then why did the surrounding neighborhood receive notices on our doors?

Because you probably live on the street that borders the common area that was affected. Notices were passed out to residents of Autumnwood Square and Harvest Green. Some notices were passed out to about 5-6 homes on Huntsman Square as a courtesy even though they were not directly affected, but were 'close' enough to the common area to see activity there. This was done so that nobody would be surprised if they saw activity in the common area behind their homes. These notices were NOT from the HOA, but from the residents affected by the vulture issue who brought in the USDA to help, at THEIR expense. The USDA requested that we do this so that surrounding residents would not be surprised to see them in the common area and to inform the residents bordering the common area as to what was going on.

Please don't make baseless accusations. I know exactly where the notices were passed out since I was one of the folks who passed them out. I will be happy to provide you with a map and mark the homes which got a notice if that would make you happy.

All homes on Autumnwood Square got a notice.
11 homes on Harvest Green got a notice.
6 homes on Huntsman Square got a notice as a courtesy.

I'm thinking about building a vulture coop in my back yard. My house backs to the woods, so this shouldn't be an issue with the HOA. I will feed, care , and facilitate the breeding process by creating a nesting environment that provides a lot of TLC. I will incubate the eggs myself and perhaps use a few to throw at Capricorns house and car, not that I condone that activity, but I want to test out her new security apparatuses (or is it apparati?) I will name one Killer, after that bashful buzzard in cartoons that i watched as a kid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qRHxMRwr2k

So this is what those of us who back up to the woods get to see for the next month or so. I just love looking out my windows or sitting on my deck, it's such a lovely view.

I talked to the USDA guy and he said that the vulture will stay up until it falls. And once it falls, the vultures will more than likely be back since they've roosted here for so long. So the street is empty of vultures for a few months, but we get to stare at a dead bird, then what, we do it all over again? Not that the HOA cares how anyone else feels.

The effigy was hung roughly 4 weeks ago. Not months. And I highly doubt you can see it from your windows, unless you are sticking your head out and looking up and to the right. You have to know its up there to even know where it is. I bet most of the people backing to the woods don't even know where its hung at. Look at the thumbnail in your 3rd image. Thats from a clear view and I bet from being inside the forest area. Are you looking at it with binoculars from your deck?

Let the HOA know when the carcass falls. We want it so we can put the skeleton in the Nature Center.

I know when the bird was hung. I said "months", which is probably what it will be when all is said and done.
And, YES, I can see it through my windows, from my deck and from my backyard! So don't go presuming what I can and can't see. All the pics were taken from my deck, and no binoculars are being used. So you bet wrong.

It's already dead. How is Cliff wanting to do something useful with it a cold act?

How about some people's behavior when the vultures are destroying their neighbor's house and property. That's worse!

Yep, the street is empty of vultures, so it worked.

I want to repeat and once again make it VERY clear: The HOA had NOTHING to do about this. It was requested and paid for by your neighbors, including myself, directly through the USDA, just as federal law permits. STOP blaming the HOA.

Finally, since it worked, if they do come back, I'll be plunking down more cash with the USDA since it's MUCH cheaper for us to do this than have to repair the damage they cause.

You can post images, complain, etc, all you want, but i'm sorry. I'm protecting my property and following the process and procedures as dictated by federal law. Feel free to contact your congressman and/or senator and complain to THEM about the USDA. In the meantime, the vultures are gone and they are no longer damaging my roof and other property.

PLEASE STOP IMPLYING THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE HOA. All they did was give permission to the USDA to access to common area to do what they needed to do.

Finally, what about how WE feel? Why should we let vultures damage our property just because you don't have an issue with them? You seem to care far more about the vultures than your neighbors. That's really nice of you.

My apologies then, you have amazing eyesight. My suggestion is not looking up and to the right through the trees at the tiny black blob.

I DO care about how my neighbors feel, which is why I kept quiet. I was glad it worked, but to be told it may be all for nothing....

And it DOES have to do with the HOA, since they gave you permission to do this!

I don't have to look up and to the right to see it. It's RIGHT THERE!! Have you ever been on my deck??? NO! It's not a tiny, black blob! And I like to bird watch, so it's kind of hard not to look at it. And I have to keep my head down when walking my dog so as not to see it. How about we hang one behind YOUR house? But then again, you probably won't care.

Oh the horror!! really the photos just prove how loony you are acting over this. I got squirrel nests bigger then that and it's certainly not distracting.
