Yes I know I am a Fish and chips addict (it's my heritage) but wanted to compare with Bonefish once more. So we headed out there last night, huge mistake - it was the stodgiest pile of grease. Very unfortunate. The batter was thick, under-cooked, oily, and inedible. The oil was so much the entire paper "basket" that it sits in couldn't absorb it. Chips sat underneath the fish acted as a grease sponge too and were a limp and sorry affair.

That aside, the place was heaving! Good to see. Conclusion - pay a bit more, but get your F&C at Fords.

We went to Ford's Saturday, early evening. Nothing really to rave about. Didn't know they had specials until we heard a waitress giving them to another couple near us (this was after we ordered but I definitely would have tried the rock fish) I did have the fish sandwich but since the bun was stale I just ate the small piece of fish, had to ask for the cole slaw that was to come with it; Husband has fish and chips and he was okay with it. I did have the clam chowder and it was good. Both felt the prices were too high....don't think we'll be going back.

    Wonderful!

We ate lunch at Ford's today and it was awesome. As someone posted, a notch above Bonefish. We both got the Atlantic Char with grilled corn and it was fabulous. Can't wait to go back and try that Blueberry pie and other items on the menu. We both hope this place does well - we need another seafood restaurant!

for the record, i reviewed it first. :)

this is a wonderfully written review- Ford's deserves it.

we were there last week- (saw YOU sunnydog!!! :) ) and had to send back our tilapia special- it was cold and rubbery. the owner came and apologized, brought out a whole NEW entree including sides, even though we ate the sides from the first fish (gooey, yummy mac n cheese and amazingly tender and flavorful green beans.) The second piece of fish was flawless- flaky, moist and simply delicious. I'm glad we sent the first piece back or we would have NEVER known the excellence we'd have missed. The owner checked on the reorder within 30 seconds of delivering it, and when we got our check, we also received free appetizers/dessert coupons for next time. (he's seen us plenty- he KNOWS there will be a next time!)

point is: if you aren't happy SEND IT BACK. they are masters at correcting the unavoidable, occasional missteps that happen at every single restaurant. they have a lot of pride in their food and service and expect to provide the best for every table. i've been 6 times, and this was the only oops that i've experienced.

    love this place!

    Went there for lunch yesterday.
Had the "favorite" fish and chips and a cup of chowder.
    Chowder was very good.
"chips" were shoestring thin-cut tasteless french fries. Very unimpressed and disappointed in these.
The little cup of cole slaw was good.
Fish was pretty good, but portion was small.

All in all, average at best and pricey for lunch. Cost me $20, and didn't even have a drink.

They have modified the menu lately and it's for the better. I've been having the shrimp/fries combo, which you can also do with clams, oysters, fish, or have them all! The shrimp are great, not rubbery, lightly breaded and flavorful.

I think the point about the fries being a little flavorless is well taken, for me Clydes does the best "chips"!

Yep. Hence the name. I don't like duck, but these fries are great!

Seriously! Must take a lot of duck to create enough fat. I think I'll pass.

My wife and I went to Ford's this evening for dinner. I had the fish and chips and she had the shrimp roll. My wife thought her shrimp roll was okay but I absolutely loved the fish from the fish and chips. Having had my fair share of bad fish I had low expectations. This was absolutely delicious. Very light yet flavorful. I agree with someone earlier who said it would be nice to have a slice of lemon. Maybe it's not typical for it to be served this way in New England, but I like it. The atmosphere was great and they had a half way decent beer selection (Two Hearted Ale was on tap). It may seem pricey, but I'd rather pay the $15 for the Cod than $10 for Tilapia or some other fish that wouldn't taste nearly as good. I thought the shoestring fries were fine but I'm not big on fries anyway. I could see how someone might say the portions are slim. I usually always have leftovers when I eat out but I cleaned my basket tonight. It was just enough for me though. My wife also substituted broccolini for the fries and it was a $1 charge (waitress didn't tell us but I imagine it says somewhere on the menu). The grilled corn had a seasoning flavor that neither my wife or I enjoyed. The corn muffins with the maple butter were excellent. My daughter had popcorn shrimp and apples sauce. The shrimp were actually pretty tastey. We'll definetly go back for the fish and chips and I'm interested in trying the Lobster Roll and Crab Cakes as well.

The Salmon is the best in Ashburn. My son also liked the bacon wrapped hotdog. We also loved the crab cakes, chips and fish and chips and all were excellent.

You really think those thin, tasteless fries were "excellent?"

Holy cow... we finally got around to going to Ford's on Saturday. WOW! It was really outstanding. Probably the best meal I've had in Ashburn.
(Sorry BRG and Cafe Opera you know I love you too!)

On the fence here, fish and chips were good, I had mahi, that was good, funky corn tho. My daughter had crab cakes that looked delicious, however they tasted like DAWN DISH SOAP, even made the waiter taste them, and we immediately returned them, yet they stayed on our bill....I didn't push the issue as my husband paid the check and I went to the car with a little one. People are nice but our waiter had long dirty fingernails which grizzed me out really bad.

The Dawn Soap thingie and dirty fingernails is ENOUGH to make me NOT want to go there...I don't want to waste my hard earned $$$ on questionable food/restaurants. I'd rather go to restaurants that have good standards. I keep hearing ups and downs with Fords...I'll pass.
