That would be for total replacement of everything.

If your unit is new enough to be able to just replace the coils - you are probably in the sub 2k range. If your condenser is too old in that it's incompatible with current available systems and efficiencies, your probably at about 4k range to just do an AC replacement. If you do a high efficiency, full heat+ac replacement, you're probably in the 8-10k range.

Issue is depending on age, the older stuff isn't serviceable or compatible and you are forced into a system replacement.

In the summer when the attic heats up, the heat moves down towards the ceiling and into the living space below. Adding thicker insulation slows this process but then also causes more heat buildup in the attic which in turn will cause more problems such as wood rot and mold. I would highly recommend having a roof attic fan installed, you will notice a tremendous change in temperature upstairs even on the hottest days.

    Steven,

Who is the right person to call for a broken/not working attic fan - a roofer, electrician or HVAC person?

    Thanks!

Our house has a hip roof. When purchasing the house from Van Meter an attic fan was an additional option. I was inclined to get it but was told by the salesperson that a hip roof didn't really need an attic fan. Does anyone know if this is this true? Our upstairs is always hot during the summer months and the AC runs constantly.

If your air conditioning system is working properly but it'is still very hot inside your home, a roof attic fan would be most beneficial especially for a hip roof.
For any Ashburn or surrounding area homeowners that are interested in having a roof attic fan installed by us, I "GUARANTEE" you would feel a major difference in temperature even during the hottest days!!

As promised from my earlier post, I want to weigh in on the effectiveness of an attic fan we recently had installed by Roofer911. Again, I want to reiterate my recommendation of Roofer911 purely on the great customer service we received - we would definitely do business with Steve again.

As to the effectiveness, I wasn't able to report last week due to the cool temperatures we were experiencing - what a difference a week makes! Prior to having the attic fan installed, our upstairs AC unit was never able to cool down the upstairs much below upper 70's when the outside temps got above 92 (as we all know, a frequent occurrence in our little neck of the woods). I had the ductwork in the attic re-done last year on the advice of Bowman Heating and A/C - this really didn't do anything to relieve the upstairs temperatures, and I'm sorry I had it done.

So......once the attic fan was installed, huge difference. Our upstairs is now capable of cooling down to the low 70's, even with outside temperatures as high as 96. I still need to replace my upstairs AC unit (I'm getting one more season out of it!), but the attic fan has made a measurable difference - I would highly recommend it, and highly recommend Roofer911.
