It will always be adversarial because people treat it as such, much like getting a speeding ticket. But unlike a speeding ticket, there is no $$$ punishment... unless you do not resolve the issue in a REASONABLE time.

Could they have waited a week or 2 for nicer weather to issue the mold violations, sure, why not. But I bet many would still complain, simply because "they got a violation".

The violation notices I received stated that this needed to be corrected within thirty (30) days from the date of the letter. Exactly 30 days later received a Second Notice, please correct within fifteen (15) days from the date of this letter. If the violation is not corrected within fifteen days you may be called to a hearing before the Board of Directors.

I would call this adversarial.. and no mention of a REASONABLE time.

30 days, not to mention an additional 15 (just in case) is unreasonable??? :screwy:

I think 45 days is a reasonable time to brush down or spray some stuff on your siding... when it's warmer...

If someone gets a speeding ticket for 2 or 3 miles above the limit then they are angry/pissed/etc. If I'm doing 20 above and I get a ticket then being cited for that is more than reasonable. I like what flynnibus said about using common sense. The majority of cops will not give you a speeding ticket for 2 miles over. Yes there are exceptions but usually there is some thought behind it.

Like others have said many folks still have their hoses packed up and water turned off. Why not make the rounds after the weather was consistently better and people have had a chance to do take care of it. Doing this in May would have made a lot more sense. I wonder what the pressing issue was that made them do this now?

I don't see anyone here saying that the siding shouldn't be cleaned.

I will go out on a limb and guess that most people in our community would consider a "violation" adversarial, regardless of what it is for or when they receive it.

If I heard correctly, the HOA is doing it's first comprehensive inspection of the entire community. This involves going house-to-house, street-by-street. Inspectors are checking for any outside modifications and then checking to see if they are approved by the Mod-sub Comm (you would be surprised how many people make major changes and do not submit an application). This will take some time to accomplish I would assume March/beginning of spring was a good starting point.

Is the timing great weather-wise for those who live on streets hit first? Not really. But then again, is it really that aggregious that some got them now and have anywhere from 30-60 days to resolve?

Read Sarah's column on page 3 of the April Newsletter. It explains what they are doing and the process.

I didn't see an explanation of 'why' except for doing enforcement... which no one has had issue with, but rather the timing.

I think it does explain "why" - and in my opinion, is weak at best. Page 3, second paragraph, second sentence.

"These inspections ensure that the appearance of our beautiful neighborhood is maintained."

So, as I read it, that is the why - to ensure we have a beautiful neighborhood... part of the SOP to do that.

And just how can the Board "throw" an election when it is the community who votes them in?

all y'all are MORE than welcome to volunteer and show 'em how much better YOU can do it. in your spare time, while raising a family, while likely working full time, while taking constant abuse for a job you are NOT paid to do... the door is wiiiiide open.

crappy timing, yes. worth all of this kvetching....? no. next time they will add a simple sentence that saiys "We understand the unusually long and soggy winter has delayed many home maintenance projects, this is just a friendly reminder."

now. can we all untwist our knickers and get ready for a GREAT spring? :grouphug:

Since it is Spring and still cold/wet, I am wondering if exterior painting is conductive in this weather at this time as I need to have some shutters repainted. Or should I wait until the weather gets warmer before this painting can be done?

T8erman, I did receive one violation as well too....

FWIW, I never saw the violation letter to be adversarial at all. Seems like a run of the mill letter "reminding" people that they need to do some maintenance work. I've gotten similar letters from different HOA before I bought my home here. So I think people may be overreacting here to such a letter.
