Not sure why you find it "interesting", however...
Like Cliff stated, that land has belonged to the County since the 1st house was built in Broadlands. If you were unaware and bought thinking that the wooded area would always be there, well, that is on you. Unless a tract of land is protected in some capacity, I would say that one should expect development sooner or later. As for the "sign", I have lived in Loudoun since the 60's and trust me, I have seen LOTs of clear cutting with no signage posted.
As for traffic, the light is not there to manage the Claude Moore specific traffic, it is there to ALLOW traffic to get in and out safely since the traffic on Cascades Pkwy is so heavy.

Now to your "disappointment", not a darn thing that the Modifications Sub-Committee can do with ANYTHING outside of Broadlands. The elected HOA Board may be who you wish to talk to. And back to the barrier, when I said "would not approve anything significant", I should have qualified that with "POSSIBLY, nothing more than a 6' privacy fence"

Yes, there will be access from Belmont Ridge. I don't know if it will be full movement access or just right-in, right-out.

That was my comment, and yes this recreation center has always been in the plan since Broadlands inception. I'm guessing the sign went up because the Bond Referendum to finance it was on this year's ballot. It failed once several years ago, so I imagine the county was trying to promote it by putting up the sign.

A little concerned about the tone of the reply in regards to tearing down the woods on a nature preserve from a Board Member. I believe many of the concerns about both the construction process and the finished development. I live close to Belmont Ridge Road where they have been blasting to expand the road. The construction has busted the sealant in all of our windows. The lowest estimate to replace the windows is a little north of $50,000 as we have some custom windows. We also live near the Luck Stone Quarry, so if we complain to the construction company, they'll blame it on the quarry and no one will accept the responsibility.
Obviously the noise during the construction process will also be problematic. For me the privacy issue isn't about my neighbors, but the people who will be attracted to the facility that backs up to my house.

As I stated in a previous post, I am NOT an elected "Board Member" on the Broadlands HOA, I am a many years volunteer on the Modifications Sub-Committee (exterior home modifications) and homeowner who is allowed to have opinions. ;)
As for the trees, sure, it would be great if they stayed there forever, but it is not Broadlands property nor a "nature preserve". The property belongs to the county and has been designated a community center since the 1st house was built in Broadlands.
I think it is a good thing that the community center is going to be built and that the County did not rezone or sell off the property to a developer.

I am an elected Board member. You bring up some reasonable concerns. The community should be engaged with the design, buffers, hours, access, etc. of this facility....not whether it should be built or not. It would be my expectation that the county will have meetings to go over the project when it is actually approved for construction. I think it would be fairly easy to have county representatives meet with residents to discuss the project. If this is something that you would be interested in, let the HOA know that you would like to attend such a meeting. If there is enough response we might be able to add it to our HOA Annual Meeting Agenda in May.

I totally agree and am very happy for families in the area that the rec center is finally going to be built. Having local access to a weight room, indoor sports, and hopefully a swim pool will be very healthy for both adults and children, especially teenage athletes. I also believe access to these types of facilities ultimately raise the desirability and property values of surrounding homes and neighborhoods provided they are well maintained, which I am highly confident they will be. Claude Moore is an excellent facility and is a model for how I hope this rec center is built.

See page 18 of the latest Broadlands Newsletter for a description of the project.

I estimate there will be roughly a dozen Broadlands homes whose yards will be adjacent to the rec center (or perhaps be separated by a narrow easement). My family is in one of those homes. We did our research before buying in 1999: we knew Belmont Ridge would be widened and the land behind our yard wouldn't be thickly-wooded forever. We are cautiously optimistic about a rec center, but specific details that could affect our daily lives seem to be unpublished at this time. (For example, where along that oddly-shaped plot will the building(s) and parking spaces be situated? Will there be night-time activities that are accompanied by bright outdoor lighting or loud cheering? Will we be able to access the center by walking a few paces from our back yard, or will we need to go the long way around to enter from Belmont Ridge?)

We are not in panic mode, but we are anxious to learn about those details. Maybe Cliff or some other reader can provide guidance: if we want to find out more about the details of this rec center, is the monthly public Loudoun Board of Supervisors meeting the appropriate venue? How far in advance of the meetings does the Board publish its agenda?

I have asked Supervisor Ron Meyer to attend our Annual Meeting in May and, if possible, bring someone from the Parks and Rec Department to give a presentation on this project.
It is my expectation that the county will work closely with Supervisor Meyer, the HOA Board, and adjacent residents to minimize the impact as much as practical.
If someone wants to find out more information before then, a call to the county Parks and Recreation Department would be the best place to start.
