I put an old bike out for trash on Monday and they didn't take it, but put it on my lawn. Today I put it out again and I found the bike in the woods behind our house. What the heck?!?!

My guess is that a kid thought that a bike might be fun, tried it, and didn't like it. Whenever I see the trash guys they are running as fast as they can, I doubt they'd take the time to fiddle around with moving a bike into the woods.

That being said, I'm amazed that Patriot takes some of what people put out the curb as normal trash.

Why make assumptions. Just write trash or garbage - pretty universal.

I don't believe I made any assumptions. I was simply stating what I observed.

    Zeratul's assumption, not yours.

The thing that I am curious about...did you call Patriot Disposal and request a special pick-up? Otherwise, if not, it sounds like the pick-up crew by-passed this item because it was non-standard. If you did call them to arrange for this pick-up, and--it was ignored--they are in error, and you should let them know! In this scenario, you should also let the HOA office know as well as they may need to address Patriot.

If you did not call for special pick-up, and you put the item out twice, we may be dealing with vigilante justice.

So today I put the bike out again with a sign. My neighbor just called to tell me she watched the trash guy attempt to ride the bike (unsuccessfully) and take it down the bike path and leave it in the woods. This is the 3rd time!!! Seriously, just put it in the truck IT'S TRASH!!

I called both the HOA and Patriot. Ridiculous.

As for special pick up, I was told it was small enough that it could be put out with regular trash.

I think they are using more discretion about what actually constitutes a "special item" and leaving the decision to the crew working on the truck to make the call "in the field". But if there were eye-witnesses to the trash pick-up crew doing this, then I am glad you reported it to the proper personnel.

There was a garbage shed built for the scofflaws on our street who couldn't be bothered to put their bins away. 2 washing machines left there at different times were picked up. Assume the owner paid the pick-up fee...but even if they didn't, Patriot workers would not know - yes, I think it's left to their discretion.

I wonder if he wanted to see if it was rideable and if so, decided to leave it somewhere so he could get it later when he is off work.
