I'm not sure if you were an adult or new driver, but perhaps you should brush up on your driving skills either way.

Making a left turn across a 4 land highway is not that hard, but not stopping at the median when traffic is oncoming apparently is for you.

Here's a link after a quick search of google: https://pemco.com/northwest/perspective/articles/Pages/Road-Rules-Left-Turns-4-lanes.aspx

I just taught my kids how to drive so can be available for lessons or point you to who they used for behind the wheel.

    End rant.

The driving around here is getting worse by the day, it seems. Saw a guy yesterday (adult, who should know better), make a u-turn from his left turn lane into oncoming traffic. He had a red light the whole time. Just couldn't wait for a green, I guess. Or just totally clueless.

I saw someone turn and go south on the northbound lane of Belmont Ridge road last week. She drove for about a quarter mile before pulling off onto the median. Cars coming the correct way had to dodge her. Not sure what or if she was thinking but glad she didn't cause an accident.

A couple of days ago, I was out walking my dog around 8:30PM along Demott, walking towards Waxpool. When I reached Center Post Terrace, I began crossing the street towards Arundell when a car sped out on Center Post and took a right without even slowing down for the stop sign. I assume the driver only looked if a car was coming from Waxpool because when I saw him and started yelling, he/she literally had to slam on their breaks about 5 feet from me and my dog. I was livid and shouting at the driver that they didn't even attempt to stop or slow down for the stop sign. As soon as I continued crossing Demott, he sped away on Demott heading towards Broadlands Blvd like nothing had happened. I've lived in Broadlands for 20 years now, and never have I come so close to getting hit by a car around here. I walk up/down Demott at least 2-3 times a day with my dog and at least 75% of the cars I see are speeding. Also, I would say that about 80% of the cars turning onto Demott from side streets don't even bother stopping at the stop sign. These are residents, not drivers using Demott as a pass-through - I see them pulling out of their driveways, etc. Is that 20-30 seconds you save really worth injuring your neighbor, their dog, a child?

You want to speed and stop signs aren't your thing? Fine, but do it outside of Broadlands - at least show some respect for your neighbors, your community and your neighborhood.

Recently, I've had several experiences at places where one street has stop signs and the cross street doesn't (e.g., where Ashburn Dr. ends at Waxpool) and a driver who had stopped at a stop sign just pulled into traffic as if the fact that they had stopped briefly meant they now had the right of way. This caused the people on the road without the stop signs to slam on brakes and swerve to try and miss the idiots.

I witnessed a left turn on red today. I guess no oncoming traffic means you can use the right turn on red guidelines.

Yep, I was in a traffic circle behind a car and a guy waiting to go into the circle honked because I didn't stop to let him "have his turn". Um, that's not how traffic circles work.

All the more reason to put speed bumps on that stretch of Demott...

Or better yet... came to an intersection the other day with flashing red signals with one lady just sitting there as if green would eventually come. She had no clue what to do, even with everyone else around her going on with their business.

I just asked my teenage child (who has finished high school driver's ed, but doesn't have license yet) what he would do in that situation, and he knew with 100% certainty how to respond in that situation. How in the world are ADULT drivers so clueless???

With things like circles (roundabouts) and flashing lights that happen less frequently, there are plenty of adult drivers around here that have not had a license for a long time that simply don't have the same level of experience with these situations. My wife moved here from Eastern Europe almost 20 years ago and took some time to obtain "good" knowledge of the road. Not saying that applies to all cases because there are plenty of generic dummies to go around but we have a complex mix of experience levels. And my son (9th grader) is already asking about driver's education so wish me luck...

I wish I was as passionate about anything the way you are passionate about NOT HAVING SPEED BUMPS...FULL CAPS...IM YELLING ABOUT SPEED BUMPS...AGHHHH!!

Thank goodness we don't have them so folks (I assume like you) can fly through our neighborhoods where our kids play, where we walk our dogs, try to pull out of our driveways, etc..

Dont give me this crap that you dont drive fast through the neighborhoods so why should you "suffer" with speed bumps, or what about the snow plows, or some other lame excuse for not having them. These have all been posted on here before and I assume you have the same sentiment. These excuses dont hold water when we are talking about the safety of kids and others in our community.

Time to push for the speed bumps again...thanks for reminding me. HOA owned, residential streets should be 15mph...the best way to enforce this is with a few speed bumps. I will chat with the HOA Board about how we can get them added so we can keep our community safe from speeding/reckless drivers.

I do not speed through the neighborhood. I do not care to drive fast, in general. I do not want to stop behind people who DO stop at speed bumps.
I've been fortunate to have never lived in a neighborhood where speed was a threat to children, or had speed bumps.

I am like many who feel the wishes of a few do not outweigh the wishes of the all.

Unfortunately, we all encounter drivers who don't seem to be aware of the legalities of handling a vehicle.
Then, there is the respectful way to share our roads, which many seem to be totally clueless about.
Example: driver who knows they have to make a right turn, goes around the line of cars waiting to turn, to cut in front at the turn.

If you don't speed through neighborhoods in Broadlands, then why would you care if there are speed bumps? If you go 15mph through the neighborhoods, then the 15mph speed bumps wont impact you at all. I'm not suggesting the 5mph speed bumps like they have in some shopping centers.

You don't speed through neighborhoods...but the reason you don't want speed bumps is because you don't want to "stop" behind others who are now slowed by the speed bumps??? What?? People don't STOP at 15mph speed bumps...they SLOW DOWN...

    Wow.

ummm, I lean on the side of:
NO FREAKING SPEED BUMPS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD!
They are costly, need to be replaced every few years, are a deterrent for emergency vehicles and snow plows, and studies show people tend to speed even faster than they normally would in-between the bumps.
