Have you seen this thing? Right on Claiborne. One of those light-up highway signs letting us know that the Steakhouse is open every day for lunch. Do you have to have a permit for something like that?

    Holy Cow!!

I already called and spoke to the manager. The owner has promised to remove it by tomorrow. I also told them to stop with the road spam signs. I will also follow up with Saul to let them know about it.

OSH did something similiar around the time they opened. They put a billboard sign up on Belmont Ridge. Supervisor Waters jumped on it and had it removed. It was hidious, 4 by 4 piece of plywood painted pretty.

It seems like they are desperate for business. Any place that has to resort to these types of advertising tactics must be trying to overcome problems. A restaurant that has been open for as long as OSH has should be able to generate enough business by word of mouth.

I don’t know what happened to the Steakhouse, but it is not the same place it once was. The last time I was there the music was blasting so loud you could barely carry on a conversation and the service/food was not as good as it has been in the past. I will not be going back until I hear from others that it has changed for the better – not because I a saw a DOT-style sign that says they are open until 2am every night of the week.

Which brings up another point – do we really want a late night hangout in our neighborhood? I assume they still have their full menu, but how many people want a steak at 1AM on a Tuesday night? The reason for the late hours is to increase sales at the bar.

I agree. These places are grasping for business. I believe that Clydes took a lot of the steak house business. Another example is Subway. We now not only have Quizno's, but also Pot Bellies, and all of the other choices. This would explain the recent Subway banner in the tree's and Santa @ Subway, which I personally thought was a little over the top.

I could be wrong but I believe that The Steakhouse just recently opened their doors for the lunch crowd, hence the advertising.

That's how I read the sign. "Now open for lunch until 2pm."

according to a server, there is a new owner who has changed the menu, recipes, etc. and business is down. We went there two Wednesdays ago for the kids night and it was pretty empty, usually its packed that night.

My guess the business is down more due to the unhappiness of their customers (see comments about this on the forums) as much as the opening of Clyde's.
The timing of the perception that the restaurant going downhill and the opening of Clyde's at the same time couldn't be worse.

Speaking of Clyde's, we were there last week and there easily had to be 5-6 empty tables in the restaurant. Guess they are not doing so well either!

I just drove by that sign and it’s been moved farther up Claiborne (outside HOA boundaries, I guess) and is now sitting on the shoulder of the road. Ridiculous. It does list the hours as 11:30 – 2:00 am.

I just can't believe that sign! It's actually now in the median of Claiborne Parkway!!! They just don't get it - they are driving their customers away! BTW, the sign mentions they are open until 2:00 am.

We had dinner there Monday night, and it was AWFUL. The server could not have cared less. The music was loud and head banger-ish. The crowd was somewhat skeevy.

Oh, and if anyone out there has a daughter, or knows someone whose daughter is a hostess, TELL HER TO QUIT!!! They were hanging out in the bar like groupies around a bunch of punk rockers.

Really sad, because it it was one of our favorite restaurants.

Just called my main man at the Sheriff's Office. I think he can encourage the owner to move his truck.

I picked up food from steakhouse last night and have to say it was one of the best meals I have had in awhile. I went to Clydes this weekend and was not very impressed with their food and the steak at Clydes did not compare to steak I had at Steakhouse last night.

When I passed by the underpass of the Greenway and Claiborne around 7:50pm, I was happy to see that the truck was being moved. The truck carrying the sign followed me into the shopping center. I ate dinner (not at the Steakhouse) and when I drove away I noticed that the sign is now inside the shopping center parking lot at the corner nearest the Greenway and Claiborne. So it's *moved* but not gone as of 9:45pm.

This sign thing is halarious, I can't wait for the ending. I wonder if they are not from Houston??? I remember living in Houston and it seemed the streets were lined with these annoying blinking portable signs and they got bigger and bigger and more outrageous as the years went by. Finally they passed one of the toughest sign Ordinances in the country and then they were almost all gone. Seemed the strip joints kept breaking the rules and laws, apparently they were making so much money they could keep paying the fines. ha ha
