yes, i'm happy to have people agree with me, and i sure do know that a teen center won't stop all.
but kids are influenced so easily, and it's better then nothing right?

and about this, yeah athletes sometimes cause a lot of problems.
it's because they have this attitude like, if they do something wrong coaches, and parents will look away so they don't give what ever program a bad name.

i'm not saying it's a bad idea, it works for a lot of people.
we just need to do whatever it is we can.

Now they've taken up a new sport...drive by shootings. My neighbor's windows were shot out by a bb gun last night and the LC Sheriff is investigating.

Reminds me of the time living in the Park. Someone was going around shooting at tricked-up conversion vans. My sister owned one and one night I am watching TV in the basement and hear a very loud WHAP outside of the window. I grab a flashlight and go look outside and I find a .45 shell lodged in the shutter about a foot from entering the window. Sister discovered the holes in her van 2 days later. Scary stuff!

Police got the 2 guys a week later after someone turned them in.

Are there any patterns to the various incidences of vandalism? Always on a Friday or Saturday pm? Certain section of Broadlands? Have heard Vestals Gap gets hit a lot.

Just wondering if there is a way to do some proactive policing or prevention in certain neighborhoods. I apologize for not knowing this already, but do we have a Neighborhood Watch program, and would something like this help? Does it warrant hiring an off-duty policeman for certain hours just to send a message?

Again, apologize if these are stupid suggestions/questions. I keep having visions of 45-year-old vigilantes roaming the mean streets of Broadlands on weekends late at night looking to bust some hoodlums :)

Now wait a minute before we all get hysterical. Is this an isolated event? Is there more to the story? Has this happened to anyone else in the neighborhood?

Let's not jump to conclusions that all Broadlands teenagers are going to start being bb-packing thugs.

These must have been much older kids if they were driving.....

You can get a driver's license at 16 which is still in the teen years.

Just because you're a thug at 13 doesn't mean that you automatically outgrow it once you get your license. (And supposedly shouldn't be so bored since you can now go places and "do" things.)

And who is to say that whomever was driving even HAD a license?

Okay so now there are roving gangs of 13 year olds driving cars & spraying the neighborhood with bbs. Ok. Got it.

I repeat...before everyone gets hysterical, can we at least learn the details of what happened. How do you know it was even someone from the neighborhood who was responsible?

I don't think anyone is hysterical nor is anyone accusing our own dear, beloved teens from causing mayhem.

It does seem there has been a fairly consistent pattern of vandalism of different sorts throughout Broadlands lately. What I am interested in knowing is if it is happening at certain times and in certain locations repeatedly. Maybe there is a way to proactively prevent some of this from happening.

    That's all.

wow, ha ha 13 year olds, i agree with you Silence Dogood99.
All we really need to do, is learn more about these acts of vandalism, then i'm sure we can figure out..patterns i suppose?
but lets not just state facts, but rather think about it.

This is from our Neighborhood Watch Coordinator.
More of our "yutes" in action:

We had an isolated incident in our yard during the ice storm a few weeks ago...or so we thought. I looked out my back window and saw about 5 older teenage boys hanging out in my backyard directly behind my house (they had to cut through a yard to get there...there is no common ground)...a few of them were talking on cell phones. I leaned my head out of the door and asked what they were doing, and one of them said rudely they were looking for a hill (they were carrying a few sleds). I told him nicely they were on private property (which was obvious) and could they please move on. One cut through my neighbor's yard, and the others remained and talked on their phones. I opened the door again and asked them to move on again, and they said something rude and finally did.

My neighbor pulled in her driveway as the one was cutting through her yard, and she asked what they were doing, and he said,"What, are you going to call the police on us?" She said,"Why, should I?" Then they moved on.

I was a little concerned because my husband had his wallet stolen out of his car a few months back (friends of ours in Broadlands that live on Marsh Creek Dr. had some things stolen out of their car the same night). We pretty much figured it was kids because they stole the cash, left the credit cards, and threw the wallet into our front yard. My concern was that these kids in the yard were the same kids that got into our car and were maybe were casing the back of my house. We back up to woods and it is fairly dark...a little disconcerting in the least. As I said, I thought this was an isolated incident, but in light of what is going on, I was wondering if others have had the same experience. The kids were very rude and aggressive.

Just an FYI in case anyone else writes in with a similar experience...

I think it's a bit of a stretch to link a stolen wallet (or rather, stolen cash) to some kids that happened to cut through a yard while looking for a hill to sled down.

At least they weren't trying to sled down the Sunoco hill!

I'm gonna :genius:guess that the teenagers causing problems and committing crimes are frustrated  youth who used to sled on dangerous hills and played basketball on:rulez: illegal sandbag-anchored basketball hoops.

Be involved in your childrens' lives! Even if they say they don't want you to  be...they really do:D !!!

pga mike - being a golfer, I would think that you would understand why certain rules are in place.

Do you hit into groups in front of you? No, because it is dangerous, much like sledding down a hill INTO a somewhat busy two-lane road.

As for the sandbags, they look like crap! And aren't the better courses in the area all about looking beautiful and pleasing to the eye?

Just trying to analogize (?) since you seem to have certain issues with the HOA. A community in alot of aspects is just like a golf course, do you want Goose Creek or do you want Westwood?

Can I ask a question about the Sunoco hill? If I wasn't on this forum, I would have no idea that it was off limits for sledding. To be honest, I've walked my dog by that hill numerous times when it was filled with kids sledding and never saw a problem.

Last week, I took my son and a friend there sledding. A policeman passed by three times without even looking up at us.

But most importantly, THERE IS NO SIGN saying that people are prohibited from sledding. Nothing. At the shopping center, there are signs saying, "No Skateboarding, bike riding, etc." Near the ponds there are signs saying, "No ice skating."

If Van Metre really wanted people to stop sledding down that hill, why don't they post signs saying, "Absolutely no sledding on this hill."

Silence, do you really think that would stop people from sledding? People do not obey traffic signs around here.

Besides, the bad teenagers would probably just rip it out anyhow. :D
