i just throw anything i want out there and they've yet to leave anything behind yet. much better than AAA when we moved in last year....they actually stuck by their "we will only take 6 boxes that have been broken down". it took me 1 1/2 months to get rid of all the trash from moving in. i had to resort to dumpsters anywhere i could find 'em.

This is one of the reasons we canned AAA. (pun intended).

woopity check with your neighbors. One of my neighbors takes my recycling bin all the time (which I always keep clean) and leaves me a filthy bin. I resorted to writing my address on the bin in large numbers but that doesn't always seem to help!

Thanks KTDid...i will. there was a green can in front of their house--but i didn't want to assume it was mine and take it. if/when i get it back--it'll find my address on it as soon as it comes home!

I have to say they're really good about taking what you put out, even recycling (Rainbow literally used to pick through our recycling and take only some stuff. I have no idea why). However, my little pet peeve is that they slam down our toters so hard that the wheels pop off. It's a little annoying to have to first find where the wheels ran off to and then pound them back on the toter every time they pick up the garbage.

    Re: New Trash Service

Anyone notice there was no recycle truck today, only trash? Usually on Thursdays it seems the recycle bin has already been emptied when I leave for work and the trash is picked up at some point later, before I return. I am at home today and everything was still on the curb until a few minutes ago. One truck came by dumping all (trash + recycle) into the truck. I watched as they did the same for all the houses in view. I am about to call and complain and to ask why I bother separating the recyclables if they are merely going to mix it all together anyway but first I am curious if anyone knows specifically if this is in violation of any law or agreement.

It was only 2:44 and you were worried about the recycle truck coming by. How about waiting a while...

    Re: New Trash Service

Perhaps my real concern wasn't clear, or you didn't read my entire post. The garbage crew took all of the recyclables and garbage and dumped it together into one truck. Basically they trashed all the recyclable items. My concern was if this level of effort to actually recycle was the norm for our trash service.

Shortly after my post however, the recycle truck did come by and the worker had a very confused look on his face as he peered into every empty recycle bin on the street. Hopefully this was just a one time thing and our efforts to recycle aren't routinely a waste.

On a typical day I am not home to see the usual process nor do I really care how/when they take the garbage, but I'd like to at least think the efforts we are making to recycle aren't useless.

There was a thread about this on brambletonians website, apparently the trash company gets paid by lbs and routinely takes the recyclables if they are there...more weight I guess

    Re: New Trash Service

Last week -- when we still had a ton of snow and ice on the roads -- I did notice that the recycling guys took the paper AND cans/bottles altogether. Typically they take them in different trucks, and those of us who separate our recyclables notice that one bin gets emptied, then the other truck comes by later to pick up the remainder. But last week I assume they just wanted to "git 'er done" because of the road conditions. But I haven't noticed garbage guys taking the recycling too. Not that I'm always around to watch them, but when I have been I haven't noticed that. So I suspect it is not typical.

    Re: New Trash Service

We have the initial trash can for single house ... can we ask for a smaller can ? ( to help with trying to fit it in our garage ) ? Has anyone done that ?

Not sure what the size we have but it would not nice if we could downsize it ... since we never fill it up .. even if we put it out once a week ... :rolleyes2:

    Re: New Trash Service

You absolutely can -- I just did it recently, exchanging the "big green" for a (townhouse-size, I'm guessing) blue one. Just call New Vision directly (703-830-7908).

    Re: New Trash Service

Hi, new resident here and I'm sure this info is somewhere in the thousands of pages of HOA docs or in the hundreds of posts here, but I hope nobody minds me just asking -- we just bought a SW townhome that didn't come with a trash bin... do we call the trash co. directly to get one, or come to the HOA office to "apply" for one? We did get a blue recycling bin. I assume all recycling goes in the bin, or does paper get separated from plastic/glass/metal?

    Thanks!

    Re: New Trash Service

To get a trash can the easiest thing is to call the trash company directly. Since not all townhomes want trashcans (they are rather large) they do not automatically deliver bins to them. The number for New Vision is 703 830 7908.
As for recycling yes just put everything in the same bin there is no need to separate glass paper and plastic.

Call the trash company for a bin.

No separation of recyclables that I am aware of

    Re: New Trash Service

I always separate newspapers, junk mail, cereal boxes from cans bottles and such - maybe I'm wasting my time. I then use it to weigh down the plastics and cans so the wind doesn't blow them away.
