New pizza place with a real New Yorker and real thin crust NY style pizza and a nice menu in the Broadlands plaza where the Bravo used to be. We had a pie there for lunch yesterday and an order of spumoni and it was delicious!! It's the real deal and they have a nicer bigger menu than Bravo or Broadlands pizza does. Try them out. I think they have delivery coming soon too. Give them a try next time you're over there (they sell by the slice too!!!), I'd hate to see the first real pizza place in Broadlands go under.

Finally a good pizza place in Broadlands. But here's my question, do they leave the pizza slices out all day like Bravo did? We went there once and were so grossed out by the dried up pizza sitting out all day that we never went back.

Also, what's the sauce to toppings ratio? We love a saucy pizza.

mom2two - from my visit there yesterday at 5:00 I would have to say that - yes they leave the slices/pizza out all day. In my opinion from looking at the pizza on display, it had been there for hours. This may not be the case as they get more busy, or if you are there at meal times, but it did not look good. The pizza looked typical NY/NJ style, so not a lot of sauce - but it looked correct given the style.

FABULOUS is all I can say. The family who bought it are so nice, I believe they live right in Broadlands. They truly want to be successful and want to make everyone happy. On Sunday night, they were giving us free samples of all sorts of homemade goodies. As displaced New Yorkers, we think it is now officially the best NY pizza around and will be doing our Friday night pizza there from now on. More good news- beer and wine is coming soon. I really hope they are able to keep it up and running.

When did Bravo close? I'm from NJ so I'm always on the lookout for good pizza. San Vito's is the best I've found in Broadlands.

I am dead serious I must of been told a zillion times it is the local NYC water that make the difference and that is why you can't replicate it anywhere else. There is a place in Marina Del Rey California that actually imports new york city water for their pizza. My favorite is rays on the corner of avenue of americas and I think 11th street in the city, and is not affiliated with the other rays in NYC except one on the west side I think by columbia university and they have one in New Jersey. Jewels in jersey city was another great one but now gone.

That's also what makes their bagels so good--the water. At least that's what they told me when I went to school there :)

Although everyone tells you it is the water, it is more likely the air. The quality and imperfections in the air mixed with the yeast create a different dough for both pizza dough and bagels.

And that's what kills your taste buds so you don't know any different. Now I get it.

Lee- Had to second your opinion on Ray's pizza at Avenue of Americas in NY- right near Time Square. We were just in NY last weekend and ate there three different times. The slices at Sal's can't compare to Ray's, but for Nothern Virginia, it's good pizza.

It is rude to you, costs a lot, then it breaks your kneecaps for not paying the "vig" on time! (J/K, originally from CT)

Your right!!!!! With great pride as a "Native New Yorker" we must admit, there is nothing in the world like "Ray's Pizza" - BUT we will sure do our best to duplicate it! We love Ray's too!

I am not quite sure I understand this comment??? I took it as a joke. In answer to the question... What makes NY Pizza different from the rest is the technique, the finest quality products such as the cheese & sauce and of course a little NY experience always helps.
From one of the many Native New Yorkers here in Northern Virginia.

Thanks so much for your feedback. As far as the pizza presented on the counter, that is just for display. We welcome requests for "fresh" made pizza with each order. You will probably need to allow about 15 minutes waiting time from start to finish. We personalize your pizza upon request so please let us know what we can do to satisfy your needs. A little extra sauce will never hurt anybody! We like pizza all different ways - just depends on the day, and the mood! Who knows, with your creative requests, we may be able to add your choice to our menu. You may become part of history! And technically, it will be considered "NY Pizza" because it will be presented by this "Native New Yorker"
Hope to see you again soon!

    Sal's N.Y. Pizza
