ok, part of me says "you suck"... having just read that, I am really hungry. But at the same time, thanks... and I was really wondering how the bread was going to be on the cheesesteak... because to me, it is one of the biggest problems you find around here when compared back to Philly. Amorosso's or any other Italian bread company in Philly was the key to a great cheesesteak and Geno's to me was the best for that.

Yea, you are right. That is a cheesesteak Hoagie. And that is what I usually ordered when at Pats or Geno's... but it is not automatic. Mushrooms are also not automatic but a nice addition. Now, what kind of cheese was it? I am guessing Provolone? Or maybe white American? And how about the size? Did you eat the whole thing? ...Wait a second, of course YOU ate it, but would a "normal" size person eat the whole thing?

Thanks for your culinary review and I will let you know what I think next...

The bread was good. It is not like most places that just try to use some store bought sub roll. I actually couldnt tell you what cheese it was for sure, I am going to say american but I think that you can order different cheese if you want. The mushrooms and peppers were part of the Special Cheesesteak. The regular just has cheese steak and onions (maybe). Either way give em a shot the steaks are good.

    Hi Mike,
You are right! It was no surprise. This deal has been in the works for several months. It is very frustrating for customers to call on the phone from their car and say " I can't find you." I feel sorry for them. We have spent a lot of money advertising and to the community, we don't really exist yet. In any case, if its any consolation, tomorrow the back sign (on Broadlands) will be changed and on Wednesday the front sign will be removed and moved to the corner of Broadlands and Clairborne. We felt that was a better spot for the sign. I hope that helps the community some.

The other issue is that we had very short notice on closing so the menu's were not ready and still in the drafting mode. Some of the inventory is taking up space for the new inventory for the new items we are introducing. Our additional cash register is not ready. The music system is not set up. There are just a few kinks. Please don't consider this complaining. We are still having a great time, meeting wonderful people and just enjoying the moment! We will pull it all together. Hopefully we will continue to communicate with the community and get everything in order. We are doing the best we can with what we have.

Thanks for your support & understanding.
    Sincerely,
    Doreen, Sal & Family.

Sorry if I missed it, but do you have a web site up yet? Or, a PDF of your menu you can post by chance? We're looking forward to coming by soon!

The web site is not ready yet. There is a menu posted on GoAshburn.com but of course there are a couple of changes that need to be done. We will announce when the web site is ready.

    Thanks for your continued support!
    Sincerely,
    Doreen, Sal & Family

Sorry - have to say thumbs down for Sals right now.

We called and ordered takeout at 6:00. Ordered a pizza with ham and bacon, an order of BBQ wings and some garlic bread. They said 30 min.

25 min later my wife went over to get the food. It wasn't ready. They had to ask her what she ordered, and what toppings were on the pizza. 20 minutes later (guess what they were doing) our food was finally done.

She got home a couple minutes later (we live a couple streets away.

The BBQ wings were hot wings, not BBQ like I ordered. Ate them anyhow, they were pretty good.

The pizza was barely warm. Not hot at all.

The garlic bread was simply thick bread cut up. There was no garlic whatsoever anywhere on it. There was no dipping sauce either. Just a loaf of cooked cutup bread. It was pretty good once we heated up some of our own pizza sauce.

We'll try again in a few months maybe.

In response to your concerns, first of all I can hear and feel your frustration. Your experience is unacceptable. I have dined from the finest high-end restaurants to the “best little mom & pop places from NYC to CA. I can only say that no matter where I go… as the owner of a restaurant and food being my passion, when I am hungry and plan on a good meal with good service I expect just that. To be honest, I have higher expectations than “good” – I always want the best! I am disappointed about the amount of time you waited and of course the end product. I do remember the situation. I did not take your order but I was delivering the order to you and checked the pie, only to find there was just ham, no bacon. We did verify the order when your wife came in and she did in fact want bacon. At that time, the line was out the door. The oven was full and we did need to wait to put the pie back in with bacon. This of course took some extra time. I did not check the wings. It’s difficult to check each individual item at such a busy time. I am glad you did enjoy them anyway. The garlic bread is not the bread I like either BUT we have made many changes and of course we can’t change everything at one time. That is also on our list of items for revision. The bread should have had a garlic butter spread on it. Again, not my favorite item. Just ask for a side order of marinara sauce when ordering. It doesn’t ordinarily come with wings or pizza. We can look at revising that too. Most importantly, we would love to have you come back soon to be able to compensate for the above mishap. We always strive to do our best and would like to have the opportunity for you to also enjoy a satisfying experience. Some of the processes which of course need some revision are all we have to work with right now. This does affect the length of waiting time and some orders that may be incorrect due to the lack of our POS system not being available to us right now, at no fault of our own. I know that having this system will save a tremendous amount of time and minimize errors. We appreciate your opinion. Feel free to come in and speak to either Sal or myself anytime. We look forward to meeting you again under better circumstances. Thanks for your patience, time and understanding.

    Sincerely,
    Doreen, Sal & Family

    Hi there,
We just served a customer this evening from Philly who came back to tell us that she just ate and I quote " The best Philly Cheese Steak ever!" We get a lot of great feedback on the Cheese Steak subs. Have you tried one yet? If not, stop in. It would be a pleasure to serve you and of course let us know what your thoughts are.

    Sincerely,
    Doreen, Sal & Family

There are several Sal's Pizza joints in New England... are you guys part of that chain, or is the name just a coincidence?

We are not part of a chain. We are family owned and operated. Many of our family have pizzeria's in NY but none of them are Sal.

Thanks Doreen and I got a private message from you!! I appreciate the customer service and was just letting everyone know that the House Special pizza was great.

And Mr Skull, no Cheesesteak yet, but that is next on the list. I will let you know.

Undoubtedly the best cheese steak in the area. The sub roll is crisp and chewy, the meat is perfectly seasoned without any gristle, perfect amount of mayo, and the onions are sautéed to a crisp tender.

We recently had family visit from Pennsylvania (Scranton & Pittsburgh) areas, who also travel to NYC frequently. They raved about the pizza and subs as well.

Keep up the great work! We're so happy to have "yous guys" in the neighborhood.

I agree. I just tried Sal's last week - actually went back a second time. It's pretty good. I went to Bravo's once and never again. Pizza was bland.

Sal's is good and the slices are huge if buying by the slice. Haven't tried anything else yet, but I'm very particular about pizza and Sal's does a nice job.

I give it a thumbs up so far.

Sal's has some slices ready to go - but I had to wait for some slices leading me to believe they'll actually make pizzas fresh to get slices to customers. Not sure how long they sit, but they looked fresh and the ingredients are fresh.
