The way I read sandaddy's post, the code allows studs to be wider apart "these days", and so that is what Van Metre is doing. IMO you should be the one to be careful what you type--re-read the post of the person you're slamming before you slam them...

well, I made an attempt to qualify my complaint, allowing for interpretation and I guess grammar and style and the way things can be understood. If all I wanted to do was slam the guy, my reply would have been MUCH shorter. I re-read the post after reading yours, and yes, if you focus on the use of a comma, a whole new meaning can be possibly understood.

So, if all that was understood by my reply was an attempt to slam, sorry about that. I read his original post several times while writing my reply so I think it was just my way of understanding what was written...

That's how I read it too. "These days" they're allowed to be farther apart than they used to be.

Don't forget the codes that set the standards are minimum standards for your safety not always for your comfort.

Loudoun has a very tough inspection system and I am sure Van Metre follows all codes.

He used to use metal studs in the interior and not sure what he is using today. But metal construction can have more vibration then wood, even tho it is very good material if used properly, but it can vibrate sound more then wood.

Just think of the metal flues on a windy day they can be very noisy. I don't know this case, but a washer dryer possibly are causing the problem because of the metal studs not that the home is built cheaper

They still use those :censored: metal studs. I can hear my kid taking a shower in the basement while I'm in the MBR on the top deck!

No... I'm pretty sure stuff in the past year or so has been wood studs. Maybe not in ALL cases, but I know the house that burned down on Stone Hollow was rebuilt with steel and they had to go back in and rip that out and change it to wood. I may have my facts wrong, but I was assuming that was because code had changed since when that house was first built, and then was being rebuilt.

I don't know about this case, what happened, but you can still use metal studs.

    No, you misunderstood.

Unfortunately, the code allows the wider gaps between studs. The Van Metre homes are to code. One would just hope the code and builder standards would be better.

But to be clear, Van Metre is in compliance with the code.

... and these washers are not just problems in VM homes.

These washers cause problems everywhere when they aren't on SOLID floors.. like concrete

Has anybody heard any good news about the GE front loaders? I heard they have a different type of suspension and don't have the same problems as the Whirlpools.

What's annoying back when reading the reviews about these machines is that none of the articles/publications even mentioned the vibration issue.

I had one in my upstairs laundry room at my house in Boston... had ZERO issues. Was suprised as all get out the first time I did a load of laundry HERE.

We have the GE Harmony which does have a front load style - however after speaking with Marc (at Sterling Appliance) and reading several consumer reports - we selected the top load style.

The capacity is pretty darn amazing, I've put 2 Queen size comforters in and the washer never lost it's balance - since there is no agitator and the bin is suspended. Also we like the fact that the washer and dryer "talks" to each other via a data cable.

    Aww, :censored:.

I just bought and installed a duet washer/dryer set... very shortly after this thread was started and before I had a chance to read it. I still haven't run the washer, guess I'll find out how bad it is.

Aw well, off to Sports Authority to get some hockey pucks....

The 'geek' in me is intrigued! What do they talk about? "Yo! I'm almost done with the comforter over here! Get ready for a big load in 5 minutes, Mr. Dryer!"

From what I've heard, the data cable is nothing more than a gimmick for people who couldn't otherwise figure out the dryer settings on their own. I think it relays the type (i.e., colors, whites, delicates, etc.) and size of the load that was just washed and the dryer sets a suggested drying temp/time based on that info.

They are SUPPOSED to allow the two devices to talk so the dryer can speed up/slow down depending on what the washer is saying. Thus, both are done at the same time.

    It's a USB connection.

LMAO - I am also a closet Geek

... yes pretty much the washer tells the dryer what the setting should be.

On the flip side - if I have a load in the dryer and a load in the washer the two talk to each other to either hurry up or slow down their cycle.

From a project manager stand point - that was the "slam dunk" that sold me.

FWIW - my hubby actually does laundry b/c he likes the easy features via the touchscreen.
