Went last night. I had the cheese steak and T8ergirl had the eggplant parm. Both were good and GENEROUS proportions.

Sal is a nice man too.

Dalyn and I and friends decided to try the cheese steak for carry out. I am not expert but that was as good a cheese steak I have had. So good I got another one a couple of days later and was still impressed.:) Keep up the great food Sal. My brother is coming in at the end of Sept. and he is the world's expert on pizza especially NYC style pizza. So watch out Sal ha ha ha ha Although I don't think you are going to have any problems with his opinion. :D

Tried the eggplant parmesan tonight. It was absolutely wonderful.

If you like eggplant, you should try this. It is not fried eggplant with some tomato sauce. No, this is fresh eggplant, layered with cheese and other ingredients.

Very generous portion, with some nice pasta.

I don't know how often they'll have the homemade eggplant parmesan, but when they do, I recommend it.

I've been three times in the past week. Pleased with the pizza and very happy with the eggplant parmesan.

Sal's is a great addition to Broadlands.

Sal and Doreen earned our loyalty with a simple, but extremely kind gesture that demonstrated their thoughtfulness one hot afternoon.

I was walking our Golden Retriever with my son and a couple of his friends. We had stopped at the fountain beside Sal's where my panting pup (and the boys!) was looking for some water.

We had never been to Sal's before, so we were surprised when this woman came out of the restaurant, gesturing for us to come over. She said, "Don't give the dog that dirty water, I'll go get her some clean water."

She invited the boys into the restaurant and gave them cups of cold ice water, then came out with a big bowl of fresh water for our dog. Only then did I find out it was Doreen.

You know how some businesses treat kids and even adults like they are a bother--but Doreen just did what her motherly nature told her to do, take care of sweating kids and a dog. I knew from that experience that Sal's Pizza would be a success. No business can fail that treats their customers like family.

So glad you enjoyed the food and came back. Of course our pizza (and many other items) are very different from Bravo. Different recipies, items and products. Keep trying new items and give us your feedback.

    Sincerely,
    Doreen, Sal & Family

Please give us your feedback. Is the "traditional Philly cheese steak" served with lettuce, tomato & mayo?" So many people tell me it is and then some tell me its not.

    Sincerely,
    Doreen, Sal & Family

    Hi Lee and Dalyn,
So glad you enjoyed the cheese steak. We are working very hard to do the best we can. Things are pulling together. We are anxiously waiting for the New POS system ( comes in Monday or Tuesday) which should really be a time saver for waiting and accuracy with orders. Looking forward to meeting your brother. I hope he gets to try some of the other items on the menu also.

    See you soon,
    Doreen, Sal & Family

So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your feedback.

The eggplant is my favorite dish. Your right! All fresh ingredients made fresh as needed. We can't keep it in the house... we have had a wonderful response with it. I thought I was one of the few who really enjoyed eggplant but I am finding out differently!. This is a regularly available item. So for those of you who haven't had the opportunity to taste "real home made" eggplant parmesan - get going to Sal's. You will be very impressed.

    Sincerely,
    Doreen, Sal & Family

It was my pleasure to be able to give a simple drink to the boys and your pup. Its great to see family enjoying each others company. You would be suprised how many people just come to sit by the fountain. Of course I love kids, animals and people too. We hope to see you soon again. I have learned in a very short time that there are so many nice people and families in Broadlands. We do consider our visitors as if they are family - when I look out the window from our " home away from home." If it were up to me, your pup would have been more than welcome to come in and enjoy the air conditioning BUT I think its against the "Dept. of Health" code. I do keep " doggie treats" behind the counter! Of course they are not on the menu and they are only for the " pups"! LOL

    Hope to see you soon!

    Sincerely,
    Doreen, Sal & Family

    Sal,

I was born and raised in Philly. Spent the first 25 years of my life there and go back almost weekly on business. I can honestly say I have had almost every cheese steak of note in Philly and have consumed on average at least one a week for the past 30 of my 40 years. I can say for sure that a true Philly cheesesteak under NO circumstances has lettuce, tomato, or mayo on it.

A chesesteak hoagie will have those and is on the menu at some spots in Philly, but NOT a cheesesteak.

Anyone who tells you any different is simply incorrect.

agree... and from someone else that was born and raised in Philly (actually Camden NJ) I can also say that a traditional Philly Cheesesteak DOES NOT include lettuce, tomato and mayo. A Cheesesteak Hoagie would include those items and would be a separate menu item. There will always be a debate even among Philly natives what the "traditional" steak would have... but generally it would be grilled steak, onions (peppers/mushrooms optional) and cheese. The cheese would be either cheese whiz or American (white) or an optional favorite like Provolone. Some places literally would give you grilled steak and cheese and that is it - as traditional as it gets. It is all about the ingredients. And the size would differ but in my humble South Jersey opinion, Big Johns on Route 70 had the best and biggest. The "whole" would easily be a pound of meat and was worth every penny for you and two other people, it was so big.

and directly from Big John's menu you can see the way they offer them (Prices are mini, half, whole):
    Plain Steak 4.85 6.25 12.10
    Cheese Steak (American) 5.20 6.85 13.45
    Provolone or Mozzarella 5.45 7.20 13.90
    Cheese Whiz 5.45 7.20 13.90
    Pizza (mozzarella & sauce) 5.95 7.90 15.30
    Mushroom & Cheese 5.90 7.70 15.20
Steak Hoagie (lettuce, tomato, onions) 5.25 6.75 13.25
    Sweet Pepper & Cheese 5.90 7.70 15.20
    Bacon & Cheese 5.90 7.70 15.20

My grandfather had a farm in Camden New Jersey many years ago. I have a zillion relatives still in philly and and New Jersey. My Family moved to Texas when I was little. Before it was fashionable for all the Yankees to move to Texas :0 In a way I was the first little Yankee in Texas ha ha Anyway the real texans took pity on me and made me a real Texan which is extremely rare ha ha ha :)

Anyway I don't know anything about philly cheese steaks in spite of my heritage.

I will only say I love Sal's cheese steaks with the lettuce tomato and mayo and Sal don't change a thing. Love it the way it is.

For the purist like said before take off the mayo lettuce and tomato. I respect their opinions but I like my cheese steak just like Sal makes em now:)

Or they can make two seperate menu Items. One being the cheeseteak(cheese onions steak bread) the other being the cheese steak hoagie(lettuce tomato mayo onions steak cheese bread). But that is kinda a pain to do.

Thanks so much for the lesson on cheese steak. I will definately attempt to define the items on the menu more clearly now that I know there is a difference. The menus we have are not finalized yet so it is not a bother to differentiate.

    See you soon.

    Thanks again,
    Sincerely,
    Doreen, Sal & Family

Another item that is pretty popular is the pizza steak.

Steak, mozz cheese and pizza sauce on a bun. Just fwiw.
