So give some other places as a comparison.

I have eaten middle eastern food IN the middle east and Mezza actually stacks up fairly well IMHO.

We've never been thrilled with their food, but after watching them tear down the signs for the first Broadlands Live we've pretty much written the place off.

 

did they really??? i only heard about McDonald's doing that... if it's true that's a pretty lousy way to endear yourself to your new neighborhood.

 

What happened?

 

Long story short we caught one of their employees tearing down the 1st Broadlands Live signs at 3:30 in the afternoon. We didn't see who was driving the guy around because he took off as soon as my wife stopped to ask the guy what he was doing.

 

If they are fighting road spam, then I think I'll give them some business this week as a form of gratitude.

So you would prefer that restaurants put up their road spam in place of a sign that's up for maybe 12 hours to advertise a free community event?

I didn't read anything about Mezza putting up their signs in place of "taken down" concert signs.

If they took down a sign that is good, if they put one up then they are no better off.

Road Spam is Road Spam. Nothing odd about that.

 

with so much competition for EVERYTHING around here from restaurants to salons to events, businesses have to do something to stand out. if the road spam is illegal in our area- how about some way of getting paid advertising on key roads? a nice tasteful sign that rotates the ads... could be a huge money maker for the community so long as tasteful standards are enforced... no blinking lights or naked chickens...

 

Turn Claiborne Parkway into Bank Of America Parkway?
Broadlands Blvd into Van Metre Blvd?

 

Here is my take if a business is viable and it is what people want, it does not need a million signs or much advertising.

Example is Sal's pizza hard to get to and packed on a weekend evening.

There are a million examples out there.

THe problem is way too many business's including restaurants for the population here . The high per capita income is misleading and again the population numbers are not here . Right now there are only approved total 30,000 to 40,000 some single family homes for all of Loudoun county forever.

That does not include the potential condo's and apartments the attached dwellings.

Also we have not been getting lately the high paying business's such as orbital AOL verizon . Mr SNOW just wants to build anything at anyones expense. Have not heard from him yet and he does not know it yet, but there is quite a bit of activity happening behind the scenes that will get his attention very soon.

seriously i'm not crazy about road spam or billboards either, but i can understand why a struggling or new biz would resort to it to get attention. i prefer road spam to flyers jammed in my door and mailbox ANYDAY though...and- we are WAY off topic.

 

We've always liked Domani's food... plus they usually have b1g1 coupons which makes it even better! If they want to spam us, do it in Valpak or something ..... Has anyone opted out of the consumer marketing association and stopped receiving all those coupon packs, etc, etc, in the mail?

 

Thank you, Mr. Linux. Could you do something about the sign flippers? Nothing makes me stomp on the accelerator more than a business that pays someone to stand on the side of a road and toss a sign up in the air.

[This is not a real request for action, but it's a gripe I have, nonetheless.]

 

Mezza continues to place signs both in our community as well as others. Over the last few months they have been found on Tururo Parish and Broadlands Blvd. Additional signs have been placed at Ashburn Village and Farmwell too.

It is obvious that this owner does not care about the community or the hazzard he is imposing on the public. It will only take one severe car accident that was caused by a sign blocking a drivers vision to shut him down.

If the state/county would actually enforce the laws on the books, they could fine all these owners $100 per sign, plus cleaup costs. Mezza Grill alone could fund several road projects in our area !!!!!

Actually, they are not imposing at will....it is on the books:

§ 33.1-373. Advertising on rocks, poles, etc., within limits of highway; civil penalty.

Any person who in any manner (i) paints, prints, places, puts or affixes any advertisement upon or to any rock, stone, tree, fence, stump, pole, mile-board, milestone, danger-sign, guide-sign, guidepost, highway sign, historical marker, building or other object lawfully within the limits of any highway or (ii) erects, paints, prints, places, puts, or affixes any advertisement within the limits of any highway shall be assessed a civil penalty of $100. Each occurrence shall be subject to a separate penalty. All civil penalties collected under this section shall be paid into the Highway Maintenance and Operating Fund. Advertisements placed within the limits of the highway are hereby declared a public and private nuisance and may be forthwith removed, obliterated, or abated by the Commonwealth Transportation Commissioner or his representatives without notice. The Commonwealth Transportation Commissioner may collect the cost of such removal, obliteration, or abatement from the person erecting, painting, printing, placing, putting, affixing or using such advertisement. When no one is observed erecting, painting, printing, placing, putting, or affixing such sign or advertisement, the person, firm or corporation being advertised shall be presumed to have placed the sign or advertisement and shall be punished accordingly. Such presumption, however, shall be rebuttable by competent evidence. In addition, the Commissioner or his representative may seek to enjoin any recurring violator of this section.

 

Unfortunately, the state and county have no intention to provide the resources to enforce this. If only they would delegate that responsibility to the HOAs!
