The Smilies list has been updated and organized slightly. Approx 50 new smiles added. Enjoy

Thanks! Do you have any plans to add the module that allows us to select our favorites and show those in our quick reply area?

I'm not familar with that one, but I will look into it. I've been messing with the groupings and ordering this morning trying to organize what shows up in the first window.. but its not a perfect situation :)

If you visit a site that has the modification running you are describing, ask the site administrator what modifications they are running and if they can provide a link.

I found a few that weren't too desirable to install. Best was to just put a smiley icon in the quick reply window, but never saw anything about favorites.

Would it be possible to limit the number of smilies allowed in a post?

That mod is a bit too intrusive, I don't think we'll be installing that one.

When you enter a particular forum (e.g. General Topics), look at the very bottom of the page and you should find Posting Rules box. Inside you will see "smilies" and it should say ON. The "smilies" is a link that will open another window with the smilies available.

Simply copy or type in the text in the What To Type column where you want the smilie in your post.

Or you can click the "Go Advanced" button down below the Quick Reply Message box to get a different message box with a bunch of smilies shown on the side. And if you don't see what you're looking for in THAT box, you can click "More" in that box to bring up the entire list.

Yes, there are two methods. The underlying principle is that smilies are put in messages by putting in the correct text string. That string is a word with : before and after it. Example

    Code:

    Makes the  icon

You can enter this text manually, or have the text inserted automatically using the smilies window.

The quick reply box at the bottom of a thread does not have the link to the smiles in it, so doing it from there requires typing the text manually. But if you click on any of the other post methods (clicking post reply, quote, etc) or by clicking 'Go Advanced' below the quick reply window you goto the full editor.

From the full editor, you have two choices. The smile list on the right side, and the drop down list in the toolbar. Click on the smile icon in the tool bar opens a drop-down list of the first few smiles. Clicking on any of them will insert the text for you automatically. To see the full list of smiles click on 'Show all Smiles' at the bottom of the list. The Smiles list on the right of the window works similar, except click on the 'more' link at the bottom to see the full list.

Basically.. the easiest way is to just open the smiles window from the 'more' link or from the drop-down menu, and just click on the smile you want to insert. It will insert the text for you automatically.

Later as you get more familar with the ones you like, you can type the text string in yourself from memory.
