Yes, I agree it is a red flag and I'm still quite upset about the ordeal but the question I was answering pertained to the quality of the carpet cleaning .

Based on posts earlier last month, I contacted Joe and I was able to get on his schedule...prior to the Holidays. I was working from home today so Joe came to by and give us firm pricing.

    1) He did ask if, we had planned on putting our 2 dogs into a crate/pen
    2) He confirmed what areas that I want him to clean - we agreed that if the door is closed then it does not need to be cleaned.

I thought it was a bit odd, but after reading the latest post, it makes sense...but still a bit strange.

I'll re-post later this week after he cleans the carpet.

Strange? Of course he's going to ask NOW considering what happened! His liability's at risk. And for anyone considering hiring someone for an in-home service spell out all the rules beforehand.

Joe came out this afternoon and cleaned our carpets. He did a fantastic job and was a pleasure to work with. We were very pleased with the price, too!

I wanted to let the folks know that Joe @ JCB Carpet came out today and did an ABSOLUTE fantastic job.

Granted our house is a little over 2 years old, we have two dogs and a baby on the way. Our berber looks brand-new and the house smells wonderful. I am one of those homeowners that is VERY picky, "white glove" inspections and I have been known to clean the bathroom tiles with a toothbrush. Joe @ JCB has my glowing endorsement for quality work at a very fair price. I would highly recommend JCB Carpet, below is the contact info

I also used JCB and recommended the company highly in an earlier post. I made the appointment for a time when I knew I would be home. My husband and I had moved all possible furniture to a spare bedroom, the kitchen and hallway (which have wood floors) and the patio out back. I'm talking couches, chairs, dressers, etc. We put the cat in an upstairs bathroom and the dog in the fenced-in backyard. When Joe came to clean our carpets, I was here and walked him around. I explicitly told him the cat was in the bathroom and not to open the door. He did ask if he could open closet doors while I was there, and I said no problem. He wanted to see if the carpet extended into the closets and if I wanted him to get the carpet in the closets. He was very careful to ask before he did anything.

In addition, although it was slightly inconvenient (and a little chilly), I set up my laptop and some work out on the patio and stayed there the whole time he was around. I feel these actions helped make the carpet cleaning a great experience. And the carpets still look wonderful!

Called Joe from JCB Carpet yesterday to clean my stairs. He came this morning and did a great job. He was on time and took exactly how long he said he would. I highly recommend him.

Based on the recommendations here I think I'll call JCB Carpet Cleaning to do our house. Before I call, what should my expectations be as far as how long it takes to dry and how long I won't have the use of my house? I want to plan for him to come at a time when I know I can sit in one place for a while (or be gone afterward) while the carpets dry. Thanks!

Hi! We live in a TH (about 1800 sf); Joe came at about 10 and was finished by 1. I seem to remember it was a day that we could leave the windows open (in October) and it did take all day and into the evening for the carpets to dry.

Joe (JCB) came by our house today. He arrived on time (5 minutes early) and completed the work right at the time he said he'd be done. He did a fantastic job on our carpets and we were able to use the online coupon. I felt his pricing is very fair given the quality. I would definitely use him again for our next carpet cleaning job.

PS We also went over the areas to be cleaned beforehand and I let my dog in the backyard so that was not an issue. He actually did the baby room first so I could go ahead and let her nap while he finished the rest of the house. :->

    Krmckee, thanks for the update!

Quick question; how long after Joe was done were you able to 'walk' on the carpet? If I were to bring JCB over, how long would you estimate I should send the wife and kids 'out'?

    Thanks!

Would someone mind telling me how much they paid for having Joe clean their carpets? I have Stanley Steamer coming tomorrow and they are going to charge me $259 for my upstairs bedrooms(4) and hallway, stairs, living room dining room and family room. I thought that was pretty reasonable, and I've used them before with no problems. But if Joe is a better price and everyone is so happy with him, it is not too late for me to cancel. Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Hi Eric, Joe said 6-8 hours to dry. Before I left, I opened all blinds, turn ceiling fans on, and left my A/C unit on. I just got back home after only 4 hours. The rooms with more sunlight (southern exposure) are almost dry while the others are still a bit damp. They should be pretty dry by the end of the 8 hr period. Hope this helps.

Joe's estimate was slightly higher than the Stanley Steemer quote I got but it includes all the extras SS charges you for like deodorizing and protection. I felt the quality was great as well.

When we had JCB do our carpets (which we were happy with) he said we could walk on it with socks on right away but it would be a few hours before it was truly dry.

We had JCB come out in late 06- for our entire house it ran around $380 (3 level about 4000Sf) vs. Chemdry $ 600.

As for the dry time - I had both our A/C set at 65 and it took around 2-3 hours (except for the basement). Joe was great and I highly recommend him!

Next question... which kind of goes with Carpet Cleaning.

We are in the market for a new vacuum cleaner... I've read all about the Dyson, but not sure I want to drop $500 on a new vacuum.

    Any recommendations?

Consumer Reports usually rates the Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel Ultra pretty highly. We have had one for about 7 years (not the bagless kind) and are happy with it.

Aaargh! I just wrote a reply about my new vacuum cleaner, but had to login again and lost it.

I bought a Sears Kenmore Progressive 35922 last week and am very pleased with it. It was top-rated in Consumer Reports Oct07 review of vacuum cleaners and got high marks for pet hair (I have a dog and cat, so this was important to me) and emissions. At 21 pounds, it's relatively heavy, so "handling" was the one area where it got just a "fair" from CR. It's not bagless, but the CR article said that "you'll probably prefer a bag if you have allergy concerns since emptying a bagless vacuum's bin is a frequent and dusty task." So far, it's done great on carpet (including berber) and hardwood floors (using the tools).

I realize that CR is not the be-all-and-end-all, but it's often served me well and this vacuum cleaner is working great. It lists at $300; was on sale for $259.
