    Ironite and other pre-treatment.

Watering at 3AM is the worse thing you can do for your lawn - it creates a moldly enviorment, thus slows down the production of chlorophyll - stunting the photosynthesis process.

I'd guess any lawn that was well watered up to the restriction likely will still look very green given the cool temperatures we've had, and more so for any lawn that is shaded or partially shaded. My lawn still looks fine and it's been over three weeks since I've done any watering. Although I do think the "if your lawn is green, you must be guilty" chatter does make for a more entertaining thread. Maybe we could up the HOA fee a few bucks and have the security folks patrol at night

Seems to me this is an LCSA problem. Aren't they supposed to be reporting those addresses with exemptions to the Sheriff so they don't waste their time checking on those homes?

Unless they were just driving by and noticed the water on?

And I wouldn't necessarily blame your neighbors, it really could be anyone who passes by your home that reported it.

...and pea, it could never be Van Metre that would report you so, who knows.

As one of the people that these cheap remarks are presumably aimed at, I'd like to respond. We had our lawn aerated and overseeded last week and elected NOT to water before the enforcement came into effect even though we would have gotten away with it. Doing the right thing is more important to us than a pretty lawn and a few hundred potentially wasted dollars.

What are you doing to make the water situation better Softballchick? Anything at all? If yes, kudos to you. If not, that's a shame. This is a wonderful opportunity for people to show that they are prepared to put the needs of others above their own, even just once.

I am unimportant and perfectly happy about it. And I most certainly need no validation from anyone.

Thank you nutria...what began as a thread to discuss the drought/water crisis has turned into a crying session. :bawling: "Holier than Thou" someone said? Appears the holier than thou are those individuals who believe they are above everyone else and "good for you" for applying for a waiver to water your precious new plants and sod, when everyone else, including myself, postponed sodding and planting for your benefit! Shame. As for softballchick, your attitude reaks of holier than thou. Is it because you are watering your lawn at 3am? hmmm:rolleyes3:

With the technology of today there should not even be a water problem. Hellooooo we have an ocean out there!!!!

I don't mean to start a war here, but..... I wonder if this water war going on these forums right now is not a fact of people that spent a ton of money on there yards and they look incredible versus the people that have done nothing or minimal so they don't care if much about the restrictions.

It would be interesting to see what the people's yards that are so into turning in their neighbors what their yards look like..

Don't look at mine ha ha ha as I have not landscaped as of yet and was going to do it this fall but you know I can't because of the restrictions. Like out west in california where i have lived you can also landscape here with drought resistant plants and grass.

Some people stand a chance of losing 10,000 to a 100,000 dollars with of landscaping to a few hundred is a big difference. I blame Bush ;)on this again for global warming and not doing enough to use technology to solve these problems. I am half joking here before you all fun have with my baby bush bashing (which btw does not bother me a bit:)) so bring it on if you want to waste your time. ha ha ha Seriously you all just wait to China really kicks in and todays global warming and shortages will make you all want the second coming of something. My dad a chemical engineer many years ago was very concerned about all this way before it was fashionable to jump on the band wagon. He was the ultimate conservationist to an extreme, especially at home.

OK I will now shut up on this subject.

Lee, no one wants a desalination plant in their back yard and most coastal states shun the idea because their tourist dollars are at stake. The last project I heard about was to occur in the warm water region of Baha but the project was blocked because the area was known as a birthing /nursery for one type of whale.

The second one was somewhere in Tampa Fl and I believe that one would impact the manatees. But I believe they are moving forward with it. I'll have to do some research on it.

No offense KT but you are the one who got up on the high-horse and started the generalizations about "waste, irrepsonsibility and myob". IMO, if the shortage was severe enough, NO ONE would get "exceptions".

I TRULY doubt that there is one person in our community who is doing EVERYTHING that ABSOLUTELY should be done to conserve water, including you.

I doubt people (generalization ;)) are skipping showers or turning off the water while they soap up. I doubt bath water is being used for multiple baths for those with more than 1 child. I doubt people are completely filling their dishwashers/washing machines.

    Just a thought.

The exceptions are being granted for economic reasons - since people are spending $$$ on landscaping. That doesn't mean you can't postpone planting or wait and water when we're out of the "well". As for your doubts - I believe a good many people are conserving and do so whether we have drought conditions or not.

Au contraire, T8er--we share bath water for my boys. Of course, they take their baths together, as they have done since they were 20 and 6 months old.

We've also started making a more concerted effort to ensure that we don't run 1/2 laundry or dishwasher loads.

I know quite a few parents do this. I was just "generalizing" to make a point.

There used to be an old saying, mainly by people with failing septic systems: If it's yellow, let it mellow....if it's brown, flush it down.

I think the exemption is designed to assist and protect those that planted before any restrictions were in effect. I prepared in August, designed my plan, and sodded in early September. I certainly could not predict this spell of dry weather, nor could anyone else. This should be reason enough for the complainers to understand. It would be completely different if we started planning now. Of course none of us would have started months of planning back then if we knew what was coming. But since we spent big $$, we are not going to let the sod die again over a restriction that allows for people like myself to protect my investment. I think that makes sense to most people reading this thread.

On a side note... I have not showered in 3 weeks.

My whole problem with this issue is the self appointed water police. Where is the benefit of the doubt? Why does LCSA even have exemptions??? Who are you to decide what is appropriate, Ktdid???? Why don't you leave it to the experts?? The reach to where you assume your neighbors are criminals is sad.
