Just witnessed a full size doe walking casually past my deck in our back yard. Now, I know seeing deer in Loudoun County in not unusual, but it just took me aback as it may as well have been strolling down a sidewalk on Chickacoan Trail (where it was headed).

Deer are simply large rodents. They're everywhere. Saw one strolling across Glebe View near Basil Court yesterday morning.

Aren't actual large rodents God's creatures as well?

sadly- the increased development has created a LOT more road kill as well... i know the herd has to be thinned since we are slowly removing all trees from Ashburn, but geez- leave a FEW trees around here- PLEASE!

I like seeing them, but my point is that they are as plentiful as rodents. And they eat your flowers and shrubs like other rodents eat up your gardens.
I enjoy seeing the ground hogs that live in my backyard, as well as the foxes, but their not better than rodents, either!

That's easy to do.....just buy the property the trees are on! Otherwise, they're coming down!

I was walking my (hyperactive) sheperd along Wynridge a while ago when a deer shot like a bat out of hades right up the hill from the woods next to the competitive pool complex, across the street, and into the woods on the other side. I nearly went for the same trip, my dog was so eager to chase the thing. She spent the rest of the night... ALL NIGHT... looking for deer around every corner and behind every tree, and waiting for one to come bounding over our backyard fence....

luckily, we live next to some protected trees, and it's not dense enough to support large wildlife like deer. foxes and raccoons i do get though... my jack russell will have a gooood time once he gets to chase one of THEM around!

Thinning the herd? Are you talking about the residents of Ashburn Village?

Pulled up to the house this morning to find THREE deer in the DRIVEWAY. I lucked out -- two ran down the street and the other took off toward the common area behind me (my usual luck is that at least one runs directly into my car). I'm also glad that none of them chose to run into the garage, since the door was already opening when I saw them.

Deer are everywhere--our record was 32 in our yard at one time in the Winter of 2005! They have eaten everything...including our rose bushes and they destroyed a weeping japenese maple! We've pretty much given up on planting *anything* until they thin out....we've also had them bedding down in our back yard and found another up against our house near the front door.
