My husband just went over to pick up some sandwiches at the Quizno's in Broadlands -- it was closed and appeared to be missing furniture. Are they closed for good?? It would be such a shame if this were true, as I enjoy their food! :-( has anyone heard anything?

that's odd- they seem to do decent biz there every time i'm in that plaza- and I like the Sammies! i hope not- it was always so convenient to grab my son a sandwich after Tae Kwon Do...

luckily you have Puccio's just down the street for a great sandwich, too

I went by there Saturday night; looks like some minor renovation work is going on. From what I saw, I would expect them to be open by next weekend at the latest.

Hubby went by today and saw For Lease signs up in the window. Quiznos appears to be gone.

As for Puccios, they were shut up tight today, too. Any ideas why? No "For Lease" signs, so hopefully they're not gone for good?

Ties into the "Empty Restaurants" thread.

If we do not patronize our local restaurants, they will go away! (Clydes and Bonefish excluded :D)
I am not suggesting eating out every night, but please remember to eat at your favorite ALTERNATIVE places (Anothai, Flatbread, Opera...) or we will find that even some of the community favorites may go out of business.

Most renovations will take place at night so that it will not affect the stores business during the day. I am pretty sure that they are closed. This is a sign of the times. Not sure what every one expected. Rents are very high and the economy is horrible. There have been an addition of 100+ restaurants in our area over the past year and a half. New shopping centers, tons of food, high rents, no commercial business and a housing market going south. There are a lot of people that have sold their stores and there will be plenty more that will go out of business. Take a look at how many places you can now get a hamburger. Five Giys, Fuddruckers, Fosters, Red Robin, and CheeBurger.

I would like to thank all of you that have helped not only my stores but all the stores in the area. We are all hurting. Does not matter if you have a brand name or just a mom and pop. Hopefully, the spring will help bring some new life into the area. Thanks again for all of your support.

While I do (or I guess did) enjoy a Quizno's sub every now and then, I almost always go for Subway. Vince, I sure you hope the Subway presence around here can stay around. I'd hate to lose that quick sandwich option as well as your very respectable business practices.

I went to Puccio's yesterday and they seemed kind of dead, they also were not accepting credit cards, just cash and checks.

They seemed a little out of it to when they made my sandwhich, not that they made it badly, they just seemed to have something else on their minds.

    Hope its not trouble.

While I love Quiznos, that particular one was run badly though. Several eveinings, if I went there for dinner, to pick up, I was told they were out of one thing or another. Kind odd, but ok, you would think they would have enough stock on hand. They were even out of Chicken noodle soup one Saturday afternoon, and I was told they wouldn't be making any more until the next day. Didn't make since to me so thier closing is not a surprise.

We've tried Puccio's a few times in the past month...each time it has been closed (sometimes as early as 2PM)...after the 3rd attempt - last week - we've given up on that place.

Now that I think about it, I recall seeing a sign on the door at Puccios within the last month that said they were closing early that day due to a death in the family. I hope everything is ok... and I hope I haven't had my last Empire, either.

This has been within the past three weeks and last week after working out (around 5ish) we walked over and it was closed. I think the hubby is going through empire withdrawls. Haven't been to Quizno's for a few months...too salty for my taste.

the cream can only rise to the top if WE put them there! i have a feeling a year from now we will have HALF the restaurants we do now, but twice the quality. but what we CAN'T have happen is the competition disappearing! if we only have ONE Thai, ONE Italian, ONE deli- there's nothing to keep the those establishments on their toes.

This has to be affecting the grocery stores too. I wonder which one of those will be the first casualty.

this would make an interesting football pool-like competition if it didn't mean the loss of jobs and livelihood of our friends and neighbors... but if i WERE to bet- that new Giant near Panera is the first to go.

Giant has deep-enough pockets to keep that one open, even if it loses money. It's right next door to the future Metro stop - you think they'd give up that prime location? It'll be the hottest spot once (if) Metro arrives. It just needs the density around it to build out.

I was thinking the same. If it weren't for the $3 penalty for Greenway traffic to exit and re-enter, I'd bet that all the establishments in Ryan Park would be doing much better. It's ironic as their visibility at an exit on a major thruway would seemingly promote it as a prime location however the $3 penalty likely ensures that it's visibility does little. As Dcdavis points out though, once the Metro arrives it will be a completely different story. There is a lot of time until then though. If the economy is still in the gutter at that time I bet we will have a lot deeper concerns than which sandwich shop or grocery store is the next to go.

I was thinking the same thing. It's a bad location if they expect people to get off the Greedway and pay to get back on. And the sad part is they are visable from the highway.
