Ok, so I head out to start the grill to cook up some delicious Entree Vous Italian Kabobs (plug intended) and jumped back 20 feet when I was greeted with this smack in my face....

Anyone from the nature center want to take it before I try to move it as best I can without disturbing it?

You need to start grilling all year round.....like we do. :) In this climate - there's really no reason not too....we get snowstorms so infrequently around here. At least you had birds....our neighbor found a mouse in a nest.

That's a rather large nest for two itty-bitty eggs. What do they grow into - pteranodons????

Are those robin's eggs? They look like they might be that blue.

We had that happen to us a few years in a row. The eggs never hatched, probably because the metal grill got too hot during the day and it cooked the eggs.

Those birds are super fast in nesting! We kept removing the nest before we saw eggs. But they always built a replacement.... next thing we knew there were eggs in the grill.

I think after a few unsuccessful tries at hatching eggs they gave up because we haven't had problems with nesting in our grill since.

I say find the kid with the BB gun that shot up Pea's house and let him pick off whatever bird it is. Problem solved.

We had this happen to use before as well (because I'm lazy and don't use a grill cover)... here are some more pix:

it actually got worse after this IIRC.... good luck! I think i just blocked the entrances on the left and right of the grill.

Try leaving the grill cover open for a couple of days. Won't hurt the grill unless it is raining and the birds will probably figure it out and move on (with the eggs).

... and don't forget joerig, bird crap is toxic to the metals used in Grills, so the structure of the metal is for sure compromised and now poses a safety issue (wink...wink)

They are, in fact, European Starlings, like someone mentioned. Leaving the grill open won't help, though. Birds will not relocate with their eggs.

Right, they won't relocate the eggs but tell your wife it's still early and they'll build a new nest elsewhere.

boomer showed you the pictures of our grill... I too left the top open thinking that will allow the eggs to grow without cooking them (which happened the first year because it got too hot when the top was down)

However, when I left the top open, eggs started to disappear. I think the Hawks started flying off with the eggs!

I am sure you have already moved the nest by now. pls call the nature center if you still have the nest in your grill.
