That is not a driveway, it is an access point to their particular development and parking spaces.

If it was a driveway then a resident would be responsible for shoveling when it snows. It gets plowed by the HOA. ;)

Well that's my whole point - it is an access point....meaning they come out onto Clairborne Parkway

And so do several other roads. What is your point again?

Someone said that the speed limit is fine at 45 on Clairborne because there are no houses that have access to that street. I'm done with this one. Obviously people are happy with 45.

I think people meant a direct access. i.e. driveway of a home.

I think the misunderstanding is that what was stated earlier was that there are no homes which have a driveway that feeds directly onto Claiborne. There are public roads that feed onto it, but nobody can ride off their property directly onto Claiborne without getting on another road first.

Yes. Over and over again I continue to be very disappointed with Van Metre. :shakehead:

And their reason this time was? Or did they not give you a reason either?

Mr. Linux - that now makes sense! Thank you. I've lived here for 24 years and I still can't get used to all the access roads around here....they don't have them in the North, at least where I'm from.

As does everyone who drives on vestals gap... waxpool road... broadlands blvd... etc.

It's a street that empties onto claibourne... it's no one's driveway and no one's personal property. It's not even a pipestem... its a full fledged street.

No one says Claibourne is a limited access road - but road with houses on it - it is not.

They said they already had a stop sign there! I have to have HOA specifically request Van Metre to put in a stop sign, Van Metre has to alter their plans, submit to county, VDOT responds, stop sign goes up. Convoluted process I think. But, I do have another plan.

If the road was VDOT maintained, I would specifically ask for this through the county (like I did for a Children At Play sign in a previous neighborhood I lived in).

Yeah, I thought it was too good to be true! So will the HOA help????? Should I present this as the annual meeting next week?

Sounds like a good question to ask. Maybe you can relay your experience with Van Metre!

Isn't the road already VDOT maintained? If not, I don't think we'll have any luck with Van Metre. They don't want to do anything that might slow done the turn over of the roads to VDOT and get their bond money back.
You wouldn't believe what it took to get the crosswalk painted by Mill Run.
Van Metre refused to address the problem for years. It wasn't until a concerned resident embarrassed the School Board, embarrassed the county Board, and our Supervisor withheld Van Metre's bond release money that the crosswalk was done.
Believe me, Van Metre was steamed!!

Originally I was told by Wes (last year) that all of Highview was VDOT maintained up to the cul-de-sac. Then when I talked to VDOT last week they said that the roads up the hill from the intersection of Stone Hollow/Ridgeway were still developer maintained.

Sadly, it does for the parents who want to off-load their parental duties onto others.

This post is right on. If we put up signs for everything, the Broadlands is going to start looking for a circus instead of a nice, upscale community. Also, since the community has so many Hybrids, when will start seeing signs warning people about HYBRIDS? (See this story for why - 8-year old boy hit by Toyota Prius, raises debate over hybrid minimum sound levels).

I see this all as a case of some parents looking for any and every opportunity to abandon responsibility for effectively watching over their kids.

One final thought... what will the rule be on sign placement? One per street? One per house? One per driveway? One per kid? One per parent? One per ???
