Anyone been there lately? I went about two weeks ago and the place is spooky. I'd estimate that less than 1/3 of the floorspace is being used for merchandise. What's up?

Lord & Taylor? They're still alive? Chripes - I remember going there as a wee lad.

It's funny you mention that because it reminded me that the last time I was there it was looking pretty empty of stuff. I'm guessing they may be closing that store.

The one at Fair Oaks seems normal.

I thought their floor always looked like that. I was in there the other day and mentioned to my mom that their floor was emptier than usual.

I think they were bought out by Hechts 6-7 years ago before Macy's swooped in and bought Hechts. So I think they're all owned by the "Mays" department store now.

I honestly have never seen anything like this. Its totally weird. And closing the men's department? To replace it with what? A roller rink?

Correction: they are owned by "Federated" and not "Mays".

There's no way they have just "gotten ride of all their summer merchandise". I think they are going out of business and I have thought that for a couple of months. I was in the Fair Oaks store today and it's full of merchandise. Something else is going on with the Dulles location.

I agree. The store has been empty for quite some time.

Summer merchandise is usually removed by July. I don't buy that line!

My mom went by L & T last weekend. She was told they are going to change the store into a "Lord & Taylor Rack" - obviously similar to a Nordstrom Rack. I can't independently confirm this but that is the word on the street.

I used to buy all my suits there - good brands and not as pricey as Nordstrom. The story goes that the Dulles location basically gets leftovers from the Tyson's store, so they usually have very limited inventory. It's gotten out of hand lately. I went in to buy a plain white dress shirt a few months back...'sorry, can't help you.' Sad.

I agree, it is sad. I really like what is in the L&T catalog, but you can rarely find nice things in the store at Dulles. Especially when you look in the somewhat bigger sizes .. hrmph....

It was mentioned quickly above, but just to expand, the sale going on right now is really big and even includes their designer stuff. Pretty much the entire men's Ralph Lauren dept is on sale for $25, even the regularly $80 golf shirts, rugby's, etc. and it's not just a few sitting on a rack in the corner.

They also have cheap baby stuff, $5 Robeez shoes, $5 Polo shorts and shirts too! This was last week, but assume it is still going on.
