We don't want to keep people from not posting their views on HCA. On the last thread we received too many emails to the admins by users saying the thread had gone to bickering back and forth and too many childish remarks about people, so we closed it for awhile for some calm down time. Instead of reopening it, lets begin anew here.

Lets try and keep this HCA thread open and civil.

    Thanks!

I'd like to hear how the term 'conflict of interest' infers personal attacks?

I'd rather have full disclosure from the person who self-admitatly works in the Health Care Industry, and spends 90% of there time here, not just countering people's posts.. but STARTING threads about the topic, disclose their relationship and relativly to the subject.

And the term 'basher' is not a personal insult, its a reality. Its not uncommon to find in public forums (especially related to Stocks) for people to post with the intention of manipulating public opinion for some predetermined gain. Some people actually make a living out of posting to places like Yahoo! Finance boards. There are performance metrics and everything.

So again, rather then being emotional, I'm looking for facts. It would be interesting to know if such behavior were only allowed anonymous by Chris, or if his/her employer would allow such types of posts without the anonymous nature.

I'll gladly respond as soon as you go back and correct all (or some) of the spelling and grammatical errors in your latest rant. I can't respond right now because I can't make sense out of even a third of the rant. For example, how can someone "self-admitatly" work?

Aktuely, i kant reed won danged wurd n dat post meself. Aint nuttin rong wit askin sum-won two klarify.

All humor aside, I think that flynnibus is George Bush because there are few people who make so many mistakes with the English language. As Karl Rove, Bush's long-time political guru and White House advisor, so eloquently put it, "As people do better, they start voting like Republicans...unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing."

Now, we have to ask ourselves why Georgie is interested in our community and HCA???

    From the Leesburg Today

"A crash early Saturday morning near the Leesburg Bypass sent two people to Washinton Hospital Center for non-life threatening injuries."

Why not Loudoun? Either the ER was on reroute or they did not have the capabilities to handle injuries. But we don't need BRMC, lets just send Loudouners to DC for emergency care.

VW: You state, "Why not Loudoun. Either the ER was on re-route or they did not have the capabilities to handle injuries." That is factually wrong, but I am not surprised to see the pro-HCA side try to use this scare tactic to instill fear in the residents of the Broadlands.

In the interest of truth, please consider that, for non-emergent cases (you specifically noted that this transport was for a patient without life-threatening injuries), the patient's insurance may have been a factor. Also, ambulances generally have to transport patients to the facility of the patient's preference unless there is a compelling clinical reason. (Was this fact left out of your post on purpose?) So, the patient may have specified Washington Hospital Center. Maybe the patient actually has family closer to Washington Hospital Center or knows the physicians/clinicians there.

Before you assume that Loudoun Hospital could not meet the needs of a patient, maybe you could take into account the possible reasons that patients are taken to other hospitals.

If this same accident had happened AFTER HCA had built its redudant hospital right down the road from Loudoun Hospital, the same patient very well could have asked to be taken to Washington Hospital Center.

Typical, chris -- changing the subject to avoid answering the "difficult" posts. I like your tactic for this one -- requiring a grammatically correct and perfectly spelled query before answering.

flynnibus' post made some valid points and asked some good questions. I didn't have any problem understanding what he was asking. Since, by your own admission, you lack the skills to decipher it, I have done it for you (see above). If you can't decipher my changes, let me know and I will provide a clean version.

You posted that "I'll gladly respond as soon as you go back and correct all (or some) of the spelling and grammatical errors in your latest rant."

At least "some" of them stand corrected. We're all ears...

If you can't see how name calling based on your personal opinion and not a "fact" is a personal attack then no amount of explanation will help you.

    Chris,

You state "That is factually wrong, but I am not surprised to see the pro-HCA side try to use this scare tactic to instill fear in the residents of the Broadlands."

How long have you lived in Ashburn? It was common in the past for Loudoun to be on reroute because the ER was full.

Second, the two injured people were AIRLIFTED to Washington Hospital Center. The patients do not get to decide which hospital they are transported to when a helo is called in.

Better check your facts next time.</u>

BTW I am pro anyone who wants to build a hospital in Broadlands. It just so happens that HCA is the only one who is even remotely interested.

VW, why didn't you simply provide the facts the first time?

Wow. This is a first. Someone questioned about withholding information that STRENGTHENS their argument.

Seems to me that VW's "additional" facts were not necessary to support the original argument. They were provided in direct response to a post which essentially accused VW of lying.

Since when do we have to anticipate all possible responses to our posts and preempt them with every possible rebuttal argument?

    Broadlands best hospital site
    By Linda Platt, Middleburg

We need a second hospital in Loudoun County to provide the health-care services needed by the ever-expanding number of county residents. I support Broadlands Regional Medical Center.

A recent mailing by Loudoun Healthcare outlines its preferred plan for the location of health-care services in the county. An important part of this plan is a number of walk-in clinics. If these clinics are key component of providing medical services to Loudouners, why hasn't LHC provided them before the state approved Broadlands Hospital.

More important, why would LHC presume to try to redirect a hospital in South Riding when the state had already given approval to the Broadlands site? South Riding does not have a population base similar to that of the Broadlands area; a hospital in Broadlands would be able to serve more people, more quickly than in South Riding.

Loudoun Hospital was able to select a site for its facility. Broadlands Regional Medical Center should be built at the site that its proponents have selected and where the state health commissioner has given his approval.

To be honest I expected that people would look up the article on the Leesburg Today website. I would've posted the rest if I did not think that was the case. I was not trying to be misleading.

    Hello all:

I have followed the numeroius posts on this site concerning the hospital debate and have kept quiet. HOWEVER, the recent post by Chris has really started to open my eyes to factual information.

Chris: Where do you get your information? Is this something that you dream up at night. Do you have any clue about fire and rescue and how they operate? From your post you obvious do not. I would suggest that you obtain your information from credible sources before you decide to post information so that you are not bashed in the future.

Patients involved in accidents that are "helo" out really do not have a say of where and how they get there. It is not based upon your insurance. The medical physician providing on-line medical control is the individual that authorizes the need to fly and where the individual goes. The EMTs in the field are the individuals that complete a rapid trauma assessment and determine the need to fly based upon established protocols. S/he communicates that information to the physician and s/he (Physician) makes the call. So this leaves the question can LHC handle the patient. The answer is in this case is NO. If the patient's injuries are in such a case they are a trauma then they need to go to a level 1 trauma center (INOVA Faifax or Washington Hospital Center). LHC does not have the capabilities to handle that level of patient.

If your so interested in the fire and rescue community I would suggest that you volunteer at your local fire and rescue station. You can make a difference in what is done and how things are done in your community. This also provides a way to give back to your community.

Take care all and be safe

Thanks Pats_fan.. when I'm posting at nearly 11pm after a long day.. typing flows from the fingers not always from the brain :) Good to see 'chris' never bothered to reply. Truth hurts I guess.

Its not name calling. 'basher' is a position or job. Its like asking if you are a 'day trader'. I asked 'chris' to disclose their association, relevance, and motive for posting here. 'chris' chose to ignore those questions and throw up the conspiracy and 'personal attack' flags. Oh well.. its a moot point now.

Loudoun County, Virginia June 4, 2004 - A Philomont child was injured Friday morning after being accidentally struck by a lawn mower.

The father of the child was cutting the grass in the 36700 block of Pelham Court using a riding lawn mower when he backed up, unaware that his three-year-old son was running behind the tractor.

Fire and rescue personnel from Philomont and Purcellville were called to the scene shortly after 10:30 a.m. and treated the child for injuries sustained in the accident. He was taken by helicopter to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Why wasn't this child able to be treated in Loudoun County? We need enhanced, competitive healthcare in Loudoun County now. We can't wait, and BRMC wants to build now. The sooner the better, let your Supervisors know you support it.

afgm -- I think some of the points Wonderfulplace made in a previous post are applicable to this case as well. Even if BRMC were in place, it is not clear that would have made the choice of where to send the boy any different. Both hospitals would be roughly the same distance from the accident -- a good half hour away -- which probably was a factor in the decision to air evac. In my mind, this is a good illustration of why additional hospital care needs to be available in Western Loudoun. Looking at the draft "Loudoun County Health Care Facility Plan," the location identified as a "Proposed Hospital Location" on Rte 50 would have been much more convenient to the family.

That boy would more then likely have been taken to INOVA even if BRMC was here or if there was a hospital on rt 50. Neither LHC or BRMC are (will be) major trauma centers. Just because the injuries were non life threatening does not mean it they were not very serious. In all these healthcare plans that are being bounced around none of them include a major trauma center so the argument about what hospital where can not be based on a accident like this. You could build all these proposed hospitals and the boy would have still had to go to INOVA.
