Did anyone get notified of the teenager being charged last Tuesday for having and brandishing a firearm on school property? There is an article in Sunday’s Washington Post about a BWHS student pulling a gun on a fellow student after getting off the school bus.

Nope. However, please note he was charged with "brandishing a firearm on school property" due to the proximity to the school bus. They were off BWHS property. I know; "Who cares?" it's still a kid with a gun around other kids.

Seriously - Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? And the parents are where? He got the gun from whom? Oh, nevermind - we alll know it's the school's fault and the parents are absolved of all responsibility, right?

Although the reason for being charged with the weapon on school property was the student’s proximity to the bus: my flow of logic is, since the student was getting "off" the bus, the weapon must have been on school property for at least a full day if not longer.

That's a good observation Ray; so I guess it's safe to assume, as you did, that the suspect had a weapon with him/her for a full school day, walking the halls of BWHS. I understand that the school has limited opportunity to find these 'occurrences', short of searching each student coming in/out of the school (I don't even want to get close to that discussion for obvious reasons...) Much of the blame, in my personal opinion in this case, lies directly with the parents/owner of the weapon.

As Kaos noted, it blows my mind that there are still parents/adults in this area who refuse to properly store their firearms, as well as educate their children as to their proper use. I don't care how 'sneaky' your kids are; store your firearms properly, educate them and stop making legitimate and responsible gun owners look like bad people. Ugh!

Thanks for posting this Ray. Very disturbing. I wonder if he accessed the gun in his home or purchased it elsewhere on his own?

Thistlewood Court is in Ashburn Farm near Claiborne and Ashburn Farm Pkwy. I was not aware that kids over there were in the Briar Woods district.

My understand from the rumor mill. Same kid who got into a fight recently at Briar, expelled from Briar, expelled from Stone Bridge, drugs, threats, general deliquent, etc. Why he is still near a school, on a school bus, at school sponsored events, I don't know. The police or school administration need to take action soon before something tragic happens.

I spoke to a friend who lives 3 blocks from the bus stop and she tells me that Thistlewood is in the Stone Bridge HS district and the incident happened with students from Stone Bridge, not Briar Woods as reported by the Post.

I contacted the school today. The Post had it wrong. The student was not from BWHS but from another school.
